Help! I can't get the ground to stay visible. I'll change it in the heirarchy editor but everytime I make an adustment, it goes right back to invisible. What's going on with this? Thanks in advance for any help.

Try pressing Ctrl-G (if you're on a PC) that toggles the ground plane on and off... additionally, the ground is actually only a simple plane, so if you rotate your camera past a certain degree it'll disapear until it's rendered.
