I've been toying with the idea of doing a winter scene... I really hate snow, so for me to do something like this is weird :) I've got the basic concept for the snowfall, but my concern is this - is there something you can do to make your snowfall partially cover objects that happen to be laying around (for instance, an old tire), and can you get the same effect when applying ice, to perhaps create icicles? Thanks! WG

Oh darn! I remember that while back there was a most beautiful winter scene here. Was made by someone name Kuzey? I can't find it in archives but I think he told a little bit on how he did. I thought I saved it as tutorial but can't find that either. Big help aren't I? Anyone recall this? Or know where it is? Or if he has a home place on the web that maybe this would be on? Kuzey? if you are out there help us make snow please! If I find anything WitchyGrrl I will let you know and you do same for me please. You reminded me that I have a herd of caribou that will need more snow in certain areas.

I've done this with a tree in a snow scene and it worked out pretty well. Duplcate the object that you want the snow on and then raise the duplcate just a little and resize it some. Then put a snow texture on the duplcate. You'll have to adjust the raising and resizing of the duplicate to get the amount of snow coverage you are looking for. Also maybe sink a rock or two into the surface of the duplicate if your looking for a more lumpy coverage. For the tree I did. I also had to rotate the duplcate just a bit for it to look good. Gave it a more uneven snow coverage. I've not tried making icicles. DM

OH DM thank you will try it. Saved as a text file incase I loose track of you too! I bet it would work for icicles too. Also was just over at Poser Forum WG and 3DWizard had a link up, I peeked and I found a snow tutorial! Figured I better put now before I forget. http://www.planet-3d.com/tutorials/snow.htm smiles Good luck with your snow!

WitchGrrl, If your used to working with the terrain editor I think that would be the place for making your icicles? Like I said I've not tried making icicles but it justs seems the terrain editor is the place for getting them made if Bryce is where you want to make an icicle object? LilWolff, I'm not sure but I think it was either that Tut or one just like it about 1 1/2 years ago where I learned how to do this little snow trick. It was a big help to me at the time and the concept works for many other things besides just doing snow coverage as well. Good show in finding it. DM

I would like to take credit for the researching skills. But was just plain luck! He just happen to put it up at the same time I popped in over there. smiles Maybe he was reading our minds. grin

Thanks everyone for all the tips, URLs, and good ol' advice :) I went into the terrain editor and successfully made an icicle - it wasn't hard to make, but you'd need the patience of a Saint to do each one - yanno, to make them look random :) Patience is something I'm falling short of these days, but maybe soon I'll get cracking on this latest idea :) Thanks again! Not knowing what your going to actually use the icicles on? The eve of a roof or the limb of a tree. I would say make a total of 5 or 6 of them each shaped a little different. That will probably happen all by itself anyway. Then just resize and turn them to make up the randomness your looking for. Once you've found a good texture for them, rotate the texture on some of them in the texture editor for even a more random look. I think it should work. Good luck DM aka Nite Miner
