I don't know if this is the proper place to put this, but there is a virus called Nimda that is causing net slowdowns by flooding requests to port 80 (check www.cert.org for details). This is at the same time as a readme.exe file is being circulated that is supposedly related to this. The virus can effect PC's and Microsoft Servers, but can also cripple other servers by scanning and running up processes. We've been seriously hit at our work all afternoon by these requests (even though our Solaris can't get the actual virus).

My hardware firewall here at home is getting hit about every 2 minutes by web requests. Come'on people, shields up! Quit getting infected and slowing things down for the rest of us! ;)

I agree. My modem lights are flashing like a christmas tree today.

My firewall is also getting slammed on port 80 about every 2 minutes. Really screws up my Quake III playing .. ;) Clint

Kinda makes you wonder. Does the genious that wrote this one surf the net at all? Sort of like shooting yourself in the foot. Rich

Well, I know that the terrorists that were here in america did surf the net. what is very weird is, they used the public library to do it. the fbi has been at our hollywood library for the last 3 days. they now have all the records for the users. i have 3 books that i forgot to take back. shees...hope they don't flag my name or anything. one of the things that the cell people supposedly were adamant about in any place that they rented was having a phone line for their computers. as horrific as the service is in this area, i am amazed that they stayed connected long enough to plan anything....okay...i'm joking, now. i must be feeling a little more normal.

I've heard that the virus originated in China. Hmmm.. ;) Clint
