I just realized that Discreet has finally made available the "FREE" GMax software or you can purchase the Dev version. Just curious if anyone has tried it out yet. Even with a DSL connection the download is slow so I'm still waiting. Somehow I predict some server swampage going on there.lol Regards, mithrandir2K

I have not unpacked it yet and I may not after reading the forum Discreet has dedicated to it. According to info on the fourm you can't export the model except to a game pak. Also read that it doesn't render the model so its not as useful as I hoped it would be. :(

Ah, you're a step ahead of me. I hadn't read that. I would say that the export and render capabilities would play a bit part in the making or breaking of a 3D modeler these days , but I suppose with Discreets reputation they don't have to worry too much about small issues like that. Especially with MS as a new partner. ;o) Well I'll give it a shot and see how she works anyway. lol Regards, mithrandir2K

Just to clarify, since I have been seeing these types of posts both here and on Usenet. The purpose of GMAX is strictly for game modelling. There is and has been no intent to provide rendering capabilities, and it has not been touted as such. It is strictly for use in rendering game models and levels, providing a unified interface for multiple games. Just an FYI, since there seems to be a lack of understanding on what this tool is for. A very limited use, from a CGI POV. - Ray

Yes, I was interested in GMax when I first heard about it - then I discovered about the game pack restriction. End of interest.
