I've been looking for some color in just prosaic places--just as I move about in the day. I've watched this tree just start its turn to Fall colour and stopped today and caught it.

This was a bonus--as I was photographying with my 2X tele on, they brought out the American Saddlebred and hitched him to a sulky. I just locked my focus and followed the horse with my camera--thus ending up with a bit of blurred background but a fairly well focused horse. I also like the semi diagonals of the fences and track.

and these were something else I have passed several times a week--the colours have been grabbing at me, so I stopped yesterday and shot some.

and one more--as I was leaving, these backlit pansies caught my eye.

I like the top pic. Was that a dog or a cat under the tree? =) And the panning shot was good! (*

Hi Diane, I thought you lived up north??? I'm in NH and were already in full foliage. I'm acualy unhapy about that too, because as beautiful as it may be, it means that I'm going to have to start shooting indoors... I hate winter, cold, wet, iky... But snow and ice storms are beautiful though. well enjoy the foliage as it hit's your airea. By the way, I love all of the images, the one that strikes me though is the bottom one. i love the depth of field used, and the (Kinda back lite flowers are fantastic. i would recomend though playing a bit with the saturation though. i love vibrant colors. -Gabe-

Nice pics, Diane - unfortunately where we are the trees go a mushy brownish sort of grey, then the sky does the same for a couple of months, the the snow falls and quickly turns mushy grey.....tch.... no variety! @ Starshuffler - looks like a terrier to me! (",)

Oh Diane, look at the fall pansies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Mine came up for three years after I put them in.....I love the barn, I dont know what it is about barns and fall, that just do it.

Starshuffler, its probably a Jack Russell terrier--looks like it from a distance and they are the 'dog of choice' down here for horse people. Gabe, I'm in western North Carolina in the foothills where Fall weather seems to be here but not much color yet. Usually about mid October in the mountains, a bit later for us. Yep, Syyd, barns and Fall go together---I have my eye on a couple of others. Pansies down here will live through the winter and keep blooming on until hot summer, so lots of pansies being planted down here now. Here's the backlit pansies cranked up a bit, Gabe. Diane

LOL--they are actually sort of 'front lit' aren't they ???

Interesting how in the first barn picture one branch can be brilliant red, and the one right next to it is still green. Color is beginning here in West Tennessee too; looks like this year will be a good season for color. The horse shot is great, and if the backlit pansies were any brighter, my monitor would explode! Diane, I hope you're busy shooting the next couple of weeks there in N.C. It should be awesome!

Thanks Alpha, this actually took me by surprise and I set focus by half pressing down on shutter button (and exposure too) and held that while I followed the horse until it got to where I had locked the focus. You have a great digital--I have an okay digital---shutter lag LOL. That's why the half press (if/when I get my E-10, the shutter lag will be greatly reduced). I'll try your way--I think I could have gotten better shot if I'd been using tripod too--the 6x zoom and dark skies (I brought everything up with curves and levels), zoom--and not thinking through the shot before hand stopped me from getting better shot. Practice, practice--and advice from pros smile. Phrank--I wish it were so--they are expecting this to be a super leaf color year. I'm leaving for High Point (NC) WEd. for 10 days or so for Int. Furniture Market--and after I finish my part as David's 'assistant', then I do my photo work--have 2 jobs lined up. Hope some color remains when I get back. Diane
