I actually have one of these in my house. It was my great grandmothers :) It stores the Christmas lights these days LOL

Excellent model! I remember when we had an icebox and had to lug a big ol' ice block into the house. On hot summer days, the icetruck man would chip off pieces from the back of his truck for all the kids who ran along behind him. Thanks for the great icebox and the memory! :) Irene

I had a few apartments that had ice boxes. I don't think they were quite that old. But the apartment buildings had a "trap door?!" in the wall. The ice man could apparently stick a block of ice in the door, or pass it through to the person in the kitchen. In most cases, they had permanently closed these doors for security reasons (Minneapolis, MN has a lot of crime), but it was really neat to see this stuff. In one apartment I still had the ice box which of course was not used for its original purpose any more... I got a kick out of looking at it and imagining just how things worked.

This must be 'Memory Lane' week... I had a friend who's mother had one of these.. As kids it was either run under the hose water or chip the ice to cool down... Thanks Cal :)

Grams had one and also had the tongs and the cutters. There was also a pair of cutters for the big blocks of cane sugar, I believe. Thanks again and a big hug!
