I remember sneaking onto a ski mountain to go sledding... now theres some fun. :) Some friends and I would start at the bottom and hike our way slowly up about 250 yards on a trail (avoiding ski patrol of course :), then go screaming down, our only lighting being from the moon shining brightly and the headlights from the occational snow-cat. Now if you are a ski/snowboarder, you know that the terrain for a green dot (easy trail) is hardly what you would call steep, in fact, a lot of times its negligable. Well when you get to the top, turn around, sit down on that sled and are take a look down, the angle seems to increase dramatically. :) A word to the wise: if you are sliding down on a snowsaucer, you better be very adept on controlling it. Because going into a flat spin on one at about 735ft up is not a good thing. In fact, its just plain bad. Especially when you continue to spin, despite the fact that you throw you legs out and dig them into the ground to slow rotation and straighten you out. Nuh uh. Now youre just spinning and weaving. This is not kosher, since you ultimately find yourself with your head facing the wrong way, and the snow is being kicked up and really hindering your vision. And lastly, your are moving at about 20-plus mph towards your destination; which by the way is the steps leading down to the base lodge itself. Your objective it to bail at the last possible moment and let the sled slide straight down the steps. And just for kicks, thats coming up very rapidy, in (oh no!) 3...2...1... Yeah, like I know all this from experience right? Not me.... ;)

Let's test your trivia knowledge, and say just two words: "Rosebud Rosebud."
amp-three posted Sat, 20 October 2001 at 11:26 PM
Citizen Kane by Orson Wells.

You betcha... You win the imaginary prize.
ronknights posted Sat, 20 October 2001 at 11:54 PM
Now just who or what is Rosebud?
amp-three posted Sat, 20 October 2001 at 11:55 PM
A sled with a very good resemblance to the one above.
ronknights posted Sun, 21 October 2001 at 12:08 AM
Aha! You must be one of them "old f*rts" like me. I never followed the whole movie through at any time I watched it.... But I still remember that last scene...."Rosebud, rosebud." I had to ask people what he meant because I had literally slept through much of the movie most times I watched it.

I'm barely old enough to drink. Just because I'm young doesnt mean I'm stupid/uneducated. :)
ronknights posted Sun, 21 October 2001 at 12:37 AM
Um, well I am 51...And you know Citizen Kane was made sometime in the 30's or 40's. And there are folks your age who don't even know about Vietnam or the Beatles, let alone some "obscure movie" that was most likely ahead of its time, but most likely "poopooed" by many a critic. Personally, I remember thinking this film must be important, really dramatic, but I had a hell of a time watching it. Maybe one day I will actually sit through it and stay awake.'
SAMS3D posted Sun, 21 October 2001 at 4:48 AM
You are right ronknights, most people don't remember Vietnam or the Beatle, who to this day are still my favorite, and Mike well he was in Quantree(spelled wrong) in Vietnam, and when we do talk about it, some young people head turn like a dog when they are confused, and say, what are you talking about. It is a shame, and that movie, yes it was great. Sharen

I do apologize. This conversation has a tendency of going away from the original inspiration which is a first-class sled and saucer. My mind is full of sometimes useless bits of trivia, and I just couldn't help thinking the word rosebud! Now again, I want to thank Sams3D for the wonderful sled and saucer. It almost makes me wish for winter again. But then I'm still trying to renconcile myself to being bsck "in the Frozen north," after I had made my escape to Florida for a few years. Oh well, that is what love, and reunions do to you.... Would I exchange my two years of married life for the carefree bachelor days in the Sunshine state? No.
