Im new to poser and playing with a texture map i downloaded from the freestuffs section. It renders perfect in poser, but exported to bryce it only contains a few objects with the original texture. The rest like hair and face are gone plain grey? Is there something obvious im missing? Tried the search option here but webpage appears to be timing out.

will check them out, but already imported them into max as a 3ds and same thing. Must be something obvious. Off to read up on it i go.

Don't even concern yourself with Poser's 3DS export...it's just not right. If you export as .OBJ, and select all the options except for "as morph target", Poser will create a .mtl file along with the .OBJ file. The .mtl file lists the materials used. If your .OBJ export file is in the same folder as your textures, they should load automatically along with the geometry. Bryce 4, anyway, will ask you to locate any textures it's not finding-- I don't know if Bryce 3 does this. In theory, the same thing should work with 3DS files, although the 3DS format will shorten the names of the textures if they are more than 8 characters long. But, that screws the whole deal, as the file is looking for the name of what it exported, not the name it was changed to. In MAX, you can, of course, reapply the textures manually, if need be. But, use .OBJ and save yourself some un-needed hassle. :)

"If your .OBJ export file is in the same folder as your textures" This is fine for a simple model, but if you have a scene with many figures and their clothing, you will go nuts tracking down all the textures. VueMaster puts all needed files in one folder, and fixes the Poser-mangled mtl file, as well as converting bum maps and inverting trans maps and stuff like that. It will also work with P3, which doesn't make an mtl file. And yes, do stay away from 3ds! tks, just gave it a try as a obj export, textures were not in same directory but bryce merely prompted me to go find the head texture. Works great. As for going nuts, being obsessive compulsive ive downloaded 2000 textures for bryce. One by one from the free sites, but yes, i should get poser in order the same as i manual ordered all 2000 of those textures.

No need to for this particular purpose, if they are applied in the PZ3 VM will copy them into the output folder no matter where they are. Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com/cr2edit/cr2edit.html Sorry Win only for software http://www.zenwareonline.com for ZenPaint, ZenTile, ZenGrid and VueMaster

Whoahhhh! Dan! Advertising Vue Master in the bryce forum?! You're brave, man! ;) But, as long as it's been brought up, I have to say, yes...VM is well worth it and will in fact do what Dan says. It was designed originally for Vue d'Esprit, but only for the .OBJ/.MTL/path/texture problem, and having been a tester for it, I can tell you it works, and it even translates Poser .BUM files into .BMP files, as well as transparencies. It does it for Bryce, too. :)

Hey Mike, I wondered if MikeJ was You in your current incarnation, LOL! Bryce Forum? I wouldn't dare, with a name like VueMaster, up top it says this is the Poser Forum! By time we discovered that VM would help Bryce and any other app that tries to read Poser's mtl files, as well as Vue, I wasn't about to give up the pun-ny name and cool graphics! I must say you've been very tame as MikeJ, and the Poser List is positively wimpy since your nemesis Gumby got tossed, we miss you, LOL! cheers, Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com/cr2edit/cr2edit.html Sorry Win only for software http://www.zenwareonline.com for ZenPaint, ZenTile, ZenGrid and VueMaster

Oh Jeez...the POSER forum?! Yeah, I guess you're right! But, you know, I'm not ready for glasses YET, am I? ;) Oh yeah, the Poser List. Man, they have too many rules for me...plus, they banned me too, during the Gumby wars. Of course, that can be gotten around easily enough, but it's kinda like: "why bother?" Everyone there knows more about Poser than I do, anyway, and if they're not going to recognize my right as an American citizen to be a complete jackass if I see fit, who needs 'em? ;) Cheers, Dan! Been meaning to email you, but, man, life's got me all busy these days....

It would help if Poser exported a full .mtl file instead of just a limited subset.
