Recently I bought characters items from Renderosity and all of them had bad texture references. All of them had install their textures in one place and in the cr2 and pz2 file were looking for them in a completly different folder. Heck, Some were even in the wrong hard drive. I don't mind fixing cr2 texture references on free stuff. That is different. You get what you pay for with free stuff. When I pay for a character, I expect that the install procedure should put all files where they are being referenced. Do people not know that Poser crashes when the texture does not exsist. Enough complaining, Let's solve the problem. Poser 4 supports relative texture referencing. If you look at cr2 file, you will see that texture references may look like this: "C:Program FilesMetacreationsPoser 4RuntimeTexturestexture.jpg" The problem is that only works if all those folders exsist. If you have a new version of Poser 4 or Poser Pro Pack or if you have Poser not installed in the default location, Poser starts looking for the file and crashes in the process. If you change the reference to : ":Runtime:Textures:texture.jpg", that fixes mosts of the problems. You must always make sure that the textures are install in folder where the cr2 and pz2 file say where they are. Not all purchased characters have bad texture references. I want to say thank you for all the vendors that take the time to make sure that their items work without any trouble. I also want to thank the makers of Cr2 Editor. It is a great product. Remember, make sure that textures are where they say they are.

Heh... I did that for the freestuff I posted (which I still need to find a new home for) I had seen it in other MAT pose file settings, the ":Runtime:Textures:Wherever" thing, so I figured I'd try it to see what happened... no matter what folder I moved it into it found it, so I figured I'd just do that for everything and make it simple for people to put the textures where ever it is that they keep them... I keep most of my texture files on a seperate hard drive, since some of them are quite large...

i make folders for special things, then i put them in there manually,if poser says "hey where all this stuff at?",i take it there and show it,if it still says "whats up"i say delete this one and delete that one but of course paying for something is differant, theres one thing about this community thing though-if you buy something and have probs the vendors help instantly, even the freestuff guys and gals trip over themselves to help, its great and if they cant fix it then someone here can help, someone know whats going on,it might take a while but granted someone knows, anyhoo ...cheers

How old are the products that you purchased? The current guidelines state a product must be refenced from the runtime directory for just the reasons you state. However, some products created before the guidelines were put into place may not be set up this way. I don't remeber the exact date thes guidelines were put into place but products in the store later than the end of April should conform to this. If not please contact the store and artists. I am sure they will want to know if something is wrong with the product.LaurieA posted Mon, 22 October 2001 at 10:59 AM
Had this problem with Neftis Paris Hair... only it wasn't that the images weren't in the right folder, it was that they had the wrong names and formats. Laurie

If you change the reference to ":Runtime:Textures:texture.jpg", that fixes mosts of the problems. Actually, you can change it to ":texture.jpg" simply, and Poser will search all the subfolders of :Runtime:textures for it. Of course, if you have another one with the same name, you are in trouble.

That explains alot. Several of the items were about a year old. I am happy that Renderosity does require some standards. Thank you.
