Right, you must have the 'pink' box. Lovely image. I have the 'blue' box (chuckle) where I have to printscreen--all that stuff. Diane B

Oh, Paul Haefeli used it on a box prop within Poser that he placed almost in front of the head--I'm not exactly sure how, but that's how he used it within the program. Diane B

Super image. However you did the hair, I think you got it right ;-) nerd

Diane,if you have the purple box, the add-on #1 box, you can also access the hair directly from the CD. I gave instructions somewhere, I think on the other site, on how to access them. Melanie

LOL Steve, that's my face on the texture map! But the model's characteristics are altered a bit. I can't post it yet as I haven't got a site up and functional (maybe by 2K) but check your mail!

I just picked up the cosmo pink box, found the wig files, and they are .TGA. I've never used that file format. Are they masked? What apps will see the mask? Thanks for the help.
Kalypso posted Sat, 04 December 1999 at 4:58 PM Site Admin
They are masked and as I said above, all I do is open up the file, cut and then paste onto my picture. I use Corel Photopaint, but I suppose the others Paintshop, PSP etc. do the same. Have you tried it with anything specific and it didn't work?
wyrwulf posted Sat, 04 December 1999 at 5:22 PM
There are four files with the same image. All of them are TGA. I have opened several in Painter 6 and Adobe PhotoDeluxe. There are no masks showing in either program. I have another image viewer program that shows different color backgrounds on the images, but it doesn't do masks. Thanks for any help you can give.

Cool Kalypso thats one of the best mappings I've seen a stunning work :o)......In Photo shop you have to go into one of the menus and select "show selection" then the masks show up.......sorry I can't be more specific I don't have it instaled at the moment I'm with Allerleirauh I use Pic Pub

They open in PSP6 I understand (use your browser in PSP to select the one you want). Go to Selections and open with 'load from alpha channel'. You will get the mask-say okay and it will select the 'hair'. Copy it, paste as new layer over Poser person. Now Melanie, I need to find that tute you had for the Virtual Makeover 2--the one in the BLUE box (is this different than PURPLE box??). I can't even find any of the wigs in this version--I don't have the add on #1 box. Diane B

Painter opens the files, but doesn't show the masks. Who makes Picture Publisher? Kalypso, sorry for not commenting on the picture, it is fantastic. The texturemap and your tweeking make for a beautiful, one of a kind posette.
Kalypso posted Sat, 04 December 1999 at 5:39 PM Site Admin
Viewers will not show you masks, since they cannot be manipulated in them. Now, when you open the file in PhotoDeluxe select the background solid colour (if it has some kind of magic wand select tool) and invert this selection. So now the hair is selected. I don't know if it will come out the same, as I get it already masked but you can try it and see if the edges come out alright. Otherwise, you'll have to have a look at the Paul Hafeli tutorial and make your own transparency map and use the files within Poser on the square.

And just to make all of this even more confusing, has anyone downloaded any of the newer files from the Cosmo site? Are they the same files and used the same? And is there more male stuff? Because the pink box that I have has maybe about 3-4. That's my next project, the Poser dude with real hair, poor guy.

http://www.micrografx.com/ for picture publisher........its pretty cool it lets you paint and fill with a texture, very helpful for us texture phobes LOL............Steve
wyrwulf posted Sat, 04 December 1999 at 5:51 PM
Thanks for the help, but the background color is too close to the hair color for the magic wand to work. I already tried it. I could make my own mask, but that would be almost as much work as making the hair from scratch. I have a couple of other apps that I can load and try to see if they use TGA masks. Hopefully, I will get it to work.
wyrwulf posted Sat, 04 December 1999 at 6:35 PM
Thanks again, everyone. micrografx rang a bell. I have their "complete publisher 99" that comes with PhotoMagic. I loaded that, and it opens the TGA files with the mask. with some fiddling, I can delete the background and save as a TIF with alpha channel that Painter will recognize. Now to get rendering.

In Photoshop, I select the hair with the square select tool (just draw a square around it), then in the Select menu, click on "Load Selection." This will outline the entire wig, down to the indiviudal hairs. Just copy this, and paste onto your rendered image. I hope that helps. Melanie
