We've just released a beta of the v4.03 update. Anybody care to try it out? You can pick it at the above URL (make sure you installed v4.02b first, as this only works as an update from there).

The fixes are:

• Under certain conditions, render would freeze at 100%.
• Impossible to directly assign a material to a group of objects containing different materials.
• Improved tolerance to faulty OpenGL drivers.
• Torus's with modified thickness (rim radius) would not save/restore properly.
• Rare render freeze when rendering high resolution terrains.
• Importing complex Poser scenes would sometimes fail.
• Save scene icon not activated when using the Camera Control Center.
• Exporting terrain maps without specifying a file extension would crash.
• Requesting other picture formats than BMP through the Batch Renderer would corrupt the picture.
• Some transparent areas in Poser would appear gray in Vue.
• Mixed materials would occasionally switch from High altitudes to Low altitudes during edition.
• Problems when entering manually a clip altitude > 100 in the Terrain Editor.
• In wireframe mode (non OpenGL) the ground plane would be hidden.
• In function editor, layer summary not updated when Turbulence and Fractal options are checked.

Great to hear it Steve, and I'll be more than happy to give it a go. For the first time, yesterday for that matter, I had one of those "freeze at 100%" problems, and was not able to render this scene I have, except in Final mode. I've seen these other problems, too, but considered them more as annoyances than outright problems. Thanks for the link! Cheers, Mike

Warning for those thinking of trying out the Beta. I loaded it up today since I've never had any problems with any of the updates. On the good side, OpenGL works perfectly with my NVidia card!! No more wireframe, weee and the bad side, I cannot save anything rendered to screen.. You click save and bam.. Nothing is written.. The only way to get anything on disk is to render to disk directly.

Thanks for keeping us updated, Steve! I hope this patch helps many of the problems we've been hearing about here. Shadex0r, while trying out the beta, the best place to send your reports would be support@e-onsoftware.com They'll be checking their e-mail before reviewing this thread, I'm guessing. Reporting problems with the patch will help them get it ready for the final version. :)

Yep, ShadexOr is right. No saves with render to screen. I noticed that "All Image Files" was the default in the save screen, but even selecting an option from the drop-down doesn't allow you to save. Also, you can't render a picture to disk in any folder other than the Vue 4 Pictures folder. Now, I wish these patches came with uninstallers. ;)
