I have been working to obtain a high degree of realism in character animation, and you can see how things are going at the link.It is a small, looping animation (a Bink exe file) showing a character head with some subtle ambient movements applied.
The character will lipsynch successfully; I am still refining the accuracy in this area.
The mapping is certainly unconventional ;-) But looks quite good.
Oh, and yes, the suit is borrowed from the characters appearing in "that" movie ;-)) Bit of an in-joke, I guess. Still, it`s only a temporary test of the progress, and not commercially earning (yet).

I'm on a mac right now anyway- I'll try on my PC when I get home.Whats a "Bink" exe file anyway. Is that image made with poser?

Bink is a great compression algorithm for animation files. It has it's own player but in the case of this .exe, the player's been built (or compiled) into it so you don't have to get the player. The player and tool can be downloaded at: www.radgametools.com. It's an easy download and install and then you can compress large anims beautifully. The trick is getting anyone to download the player to see them... which is why the option to make .exe is nice. Except then MAC people can't see them... (there is a MAC version though) For anyone who has Bink or gets it after this can then see MY animations at: www.citizendave.com : )

nice... can't wait to see a finished lipsync!

Very nice... the animation looks very good. What I'm also interested in is what program or technique you used to get such a realistic looking character. That's very impressive, too.

That character is Jane Proudfoot from Square Picture's "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within."
Polartech, I'm just guessing here but was this animated with 3DMeNow from Biovirtual? I was thinking of purchasing it but would like to get some input from its users about it. Thanks.

Nuke - you are very close there. 3DMeNow forms a large part of this technique, but I would advise you to hold on a little while if you are thinking of getting it. Things are developing very fast on that front ;-) Like I said, getting that to lipsynch and render in Poser (as this was) took some figuring out... but I think the potential is interesting. Just thought some folks might be interested to see how progs can be made to work together. Thanks.

oh, yes... it`s therefore possible to get a true photoreal likeness of a person into a talking, 3D, renderable character as a result ;-) Anyone...
