I have gone through a lot of tutorials... however, none that I have found explain about how to make your "OWN" textures. I have not been able to find many good sci-fi, space ship, textures and bump maps out there... and I don't see why I should pay 29.95 for a CD of them - when I should learn to do them myself. So (unless someone has a url with a lot of sci-fi textures for free on them ^_^) does anyone know of any good tutorials on how to make, apply and use your own textures? tracy-ann

Tracy-Ann, Have yuo tried my site for textures? Chemical Studios has a link on the side bar under Web-Resources. Ive got about 200 preset Bryce materials, including a lot of sci-fi textures-Yull probably find something your looking for in the Metals section. On my tutorial(Poser2Bryce)page-step 3 and 4 cover how to imort yuor own textures and make presets of them.

Oh yeah - I have raided your metal section :) Very very well done, and you gave me wonderful ideas for making my own tiled material... However, the thing I was having problems with is the making custom texutre... how to make them mainly. I figured out that you do a basic gray scale render of the Front (or top) of the picture... then you make your custom texture using photoshop... However... If you look at my picture which I submitted, I'm still not getting the hang of it. The bottom part of the middle section (which has the red writing on it) is warping so that the "UP" appears to disappear off the edge... I can't figure out why this is happening. I was told that if you were making a render at 800x600 you have to have a texture of 800x600, however this doesn't appear to account for wrapping, and warping of the model, and doesn't seem to be a very good rule. What I'm looking for is a tutorial - or someone - that will explain to me just what kinda "rules" you are expected to follow. (ie, size differences, how big you should make the texture, how you should render the texture, short cuts, tips and tricks, etc etc) Does anyone have any the above information - for that is where I am mostly stuck tracy

Yeah - I have seen this... he uses a top manner to write the detail... however, what happens when you have a front side texture to make of a circular model? It isn't a matter of just making a render of the model is it... you have to add for wrap around, and also warping of the model... that is where i'm confused and can't figure out... tracy-ann

I tried that tutorial a long time ago.and I think with the paremetric mapping mode it works fine or do it twice one mask for top and one for bottom of model then in the texture editor hold ctrl while selecting the dot in the second column and it should map it twice column 1 for bottom column 2 for top. I would say try the tut. and maybe wright Peter directly if you have prollems. Good luck
