Hello, I keep seeing photorealistic textures, photo realistic hair, etc. I have been looking for a guide to do photo realistic hair and textures, but cannot find one. I may not have the right software to make one. I have Poser4, of course Painter, and a scanner. Is there a guide somewhere on the Net about making them. Thanks, Bill

You need a photo editing program like Paint Sho Pro, Adobe Photo or Corel Photo. What I do is take a texture map (this is included on the Poser Accessories disk) or grab a texture map from this site and over lay a picture on to it. I made a decent Poser guy that way. You'll need to stretch/distort the photo a bit to get it to map properly. It's just a matter of patience and doing touch ups. As a general rule, you'll want to turn the Poser model white. Absolutely white. Make sure that the check box for "Texture change applies to entire figure" is checked. Get every part of the model white. (In the upper right corner of the Render Options box is the drop down list for all the body parts.) For hair, the hands-down favorite tutorial is at http://www.vowel.or.jp/~kozaburo/tutorial/hair.html If you need more help, let me know. I'm not the best on the Forum with this stuff, but I can certain point you in the right direction.

Crescent, I see on the web Paint Shop Pro for less than $100 and I see a Adobe Photoshop limited EDition for less than $100. Will either one of these do the trick? I was expected a lot more money for them. Thanks, Bill

If you have MetaCreations Painter, that is all the program you need to work on texture maps. If you have Painter 3D that came with Poser 4, you need to download the patch from Meta, and use the Painter3d files that are on the P4 content CD. Lafolli has a Painter 3D tutorial at http://members.xoom.com/lafolli/

Paint Shop Pro would work just fine. It seems to be a popular choice here. I haven't tried the Painter 3D program. Thanks wyrwulf, for letting me know that it can be used for the textures!

I have paint shop pro 5, photoshop 5.5 and the painter 3DSE that came with poser 4 with the patch added on. Which of these will give me the best results for making these textures? I assume painter 3D for it's 3D abilities but am I correct?

Truth has no value without backing by unfounded belief.

... and bear in mind that even when you get your texture map done that that is only the beginning. There are still a bunch of other variables and controls pertaining to mapping, lighting, & rendering that will contribute to an overall photo-realistic final image.

The only extra I think) that you get with Painter 3D is that you can see the results of your texture map work as you do it. Whatever program you are most proficient in is the one to use. Layers or floaters make it easier to test your work without making permanent changes. Remember to save often, and have your undo's set to a high number.
