What is the difference between a normal Bryce 5 version and the academic one?

As far as I know, there is no manual in the academic

There may also be a difference in the license agreement. Read both. If you want to go commercial with your art, full version is likely to be more proper. If you just want to learn and show your stuff and learn more, academic might work for you.

Academic version software, in general, don't have manual and they don't get the same level of support from the full version and like EricofSd said, there is some difference in the license agreement. There is difference in prices but if you think you are going to use Bryce for commercial value, buy the full version. Pleiades
