Subject: Metastream Content on a Mac

Hi, Can anyone at Metacreations let us know when us Mac users can create Metastream content in RDS, Poser etc?

I've been waiting for almost a year for them to reply to my querry to their website regarding the mac plugs. The "read-me" file that came with RDS 5.5 mentions the mac .mts export but it's not on the disk! Just remembered, MC is in corporate partnership with Intel. Too bad, I thought they wanted to push this metastream stuff. Mabey they don't know that the majority of pro graphic artists and web content creators are on macs. I suppose secretaries can take 3-d pictures of items for content, just as they do with cheap digital cameras for high-end printing.

I tried it on a friend's PC with RDS on. It crashed when I tried to make a MetaStream object from a model I had built. When I say "crashed" I mean that the application wasn't "responding" which means that it could have been doing something, but wasn't owning up to it. We gave up after half an hour of inactivity. I agree with your comments about Macs and graphic artists. Indeed, I thought Poser 4 could create such content, but it transpires that it is only the PC version that can. Do MC's people read this list? If so, is there a reason why us Mac web content creators are being left out of the running on this issue? I actually have customers interested in this kind of thing going on their web sites, and I would like to be able to accomodate their wishes.

I just recently became aware of metastream and have for the past month tried to do what you guys already found out, it's not happening. I went to get the MTS 3 viewer plug-in and discovered it is NOT YET available for Mac. Carrara just disappears when you try to export MTS. Tech support was zero help. If anyone firgures how to get MTS out of Poser, Bryce, Carrara or RD5.5, I would like to hear about it.

There is an MTS plug-in included with the Poser 4 update on Metacreations site that (kind of) works - as long as you don't give it anything too complicated. So you can import your OBJ files into Poser and export that way. This seems to be the only way that I can do this at the moment, which isn't very satisfactory.

Thanks for the tip. I will definately try that.
