I have Infini-D 4.01 and don't think it is very compatible with POser, I believe they release 4.5 before they dropped it, and was wondering if it is any better at importing and textureing Poser figures?

Hi Folks! Infini-D does a fair job of importing Poser figures in .3MF format. Of course, you cannot pose the figures since they enter Infini-D as one object. Moreover, if you want to be able to assign textures to certain body groups, they will have to be imported separately--a tedious job at best. A better approach (at least for props) might be to compose the object native in Infini-D and export it as a .DXF or .3MF file. I usually then open it in Painter 3D (which is included on the Poser CD) and then save the object as an .obj file. Again, for objects with posable parts or multiple maps, you'll need to export each part and reassemble it in Poser. Or you can open the files directly in UV Mapper, save them as .obj files with new names, create your own texture maps, and then bring them into Poser to reassemble. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person continuing to use Infini-D. It's still my favorite 3D app; maybe someday it will be developed again. Peter (Dr Zik)

Hi jerr3d, First things first. Infini-D 4.5 was really only a minor bug fix and a few little enhancements to 4.01. Since I could never get 4.5 (It went out of production before I could upgrade) I don't really know if it handled mapping differently. I have 4.01 also for the MAC. (Dr Zik: Ever find 4.5 for the MAC that I could get) I use it a lot for props. Never for Figures. And a correction, it will import a 3dmf poser figure as parts/groups. But Infini-D's nameing protocol is incompatable with most programs. I.E. If you name a box in Infini-D "Mybox" When exported, it ends up as a generic "mesh 1" And the same with Textures. Name a texture "MyBlue" and it will export as "Material n". I believe this is inherrant of 3dmf exporting. But don't quote me ;-) So I'm assuming that 4.5 is still fairly out dated when it comes to any kind of UV mapping too. Do as Dr Zik says, do what you need in Infini-D and do a bunch of converting. Infini-D -->Poser--->UVMapper---->Poser, exporting accordingly. But don't get me wrong about Infini-D, I have Carrara (It's newest encarnation) and use Infini-D more to create props. Hope this helps. James

I have Infini-D 4.5 for MAC also. Bought it as a "special" from MC for 1/2 price. They didn't tell me they were going to drop it a couple months later (that part was special). In any event, you may consider upgrading to Carrara 1.1 for a special (really) price before version 2 comes out. I belive the upgrade option may expire at that time.

I was just given a copy of Infini-D 4.5 . and I'm kind of an amature with 3D art, actually I don't know the first thing about it. If anyone could tell me any interesting facts about it, please, don't hold back. :)
