Hi I am making a program for poser file management/automated distribution packaging/cr2 edits/morph managing/phi building/cr2 link checking and lots more stuff. I would like to have some kind of idea of what the standard poser community uses for an OS and the size of you current poser directory. for instance, I use Windows ME and my Poser directory is ~1 gb in size. I ask because even windows systems will not report various items the same...such simple things as acquiring "free disk space" are not reported and handled the same way for each one (silly huh?) and I want to know how many people use what OS so I know what areas to focus on... this also gives me an idea of how many poser files an average user of poser has. thanx BT

Maz posted Tue, 04 December 2001 at 6:04 PM

My Poser directory is very nearly 2GB. However, I keep most of my Poser stuff elsewhere. I have a further 1.6GB or more on my hard disk and several CD-ROMs, and six or seven Zip disks of Poser stuff. Then there's the 3D stuff that I've developed outside Poser which probably runs to another 3 or 4 GB. I use Win 98 on my desktop, and Win 95 on my laptop. Don't ask. I don't know why either. Maz

Mac 9.1 I keep my current projects on separate Zips so I can keep the size of my RunTime folder relatively small. It makes the program run far more efficiently, from what I can see. Having said that, tonight I started CD #23 of archives, some of it Bryce, some of it QuickTime movies, but the overwhelming amount Poser material. Ive developed a very specific indexing program so I can readily find the materials I need for any given project instead of having to dump everything on my HD.

Runtime: over 6 Gb, growing rapidly

I also have a german version of Poser. :P
In this version the names of some folders are different (figures -> Figuren, and so on). Everytime I install something I have to move the library stuff in the correct directories. This bugs me endlessly.
A installation routine which could figure this out would be very good.

Actually, as of Final Cut Pro 3, there may be a lot of changes. That was interesting that someone's tried it on Linux.

Win 98SE

Poser Pro Pack 6.7GB
Poser 4 (without Pro Pack) 6.6GB

I have each version on a different partition. The Poser 4 is a mirror image of the pro pack install except for the stuff added or changed by the Pro Pack upgrade. Some things still don't work right in Pro Pack and it hangs and crashes more than Poser 4 does. Setting them up this way means it doesn't matter which one I make a file in, both can find the same models and textures in their own subfolders.

Hi, Win Me and ~4Gb before my OS died :( but I'll be a bit more choosy when I get around to rebuilding it at the weekend, I doubt it'll be much smaller, just more managable, the one thing I could use in poser5 is something that shrinks the library view, (to keep it managable, my pose dir is huge :) and keeps the most used ones on top :) later jb
