Subject: Tinting skin tones in Bryce

I've been playing around with modifying skin tones in Bryce, which was the subject of a thread a while ago. It's actually better than I thought. The trick is to use ABC texturing where channels A and B are two textures to be combined, and channel C controls the mixing. To tint a skin texture the way you would in Poser, in the materials editor load the skin texture into A, and put a plain colour in channel B (easy to do with a procedural texture with no noise). Then put a plain grey texture in channel C. You can make this a procedural - turn off all noise, filters, etc and make sure that alpha is exported. This will give you a 50% grey. Alternatively, you can import a plain grey bitmap and make sure when you load it that you copy it to the mask channel also. It turns out that in some ways it's even better than in Poser, because you aren't limited to blending in a solid colour. The picture shows some results. I took a Poser figure, imported it into Bryce and then replicated it a couple of times. The figure on the left is the original, as it came in from Poser with the unaltered skin texture. The middle figure has the skin and eyebrows tinted with a chocolate brown using a 50% grey mixer. The figure on the right has two different skin textures combined 50% each! The possibilities of blending one skin texture with another are interesting. Same with the hair. The figure on the left has the original hair texture; this time the middle one has two hair textures combined (actually the same texture in two different colours). The one on the right has the hair texture overlaid with a black tint. The diffusion and ambience settings are identical on all three and there's no postwork whatever.
