Still working on the textures, these are a bit crude. Your comments would be appreciated.

Won't be in Avatar land anytime soon but these look pretty cool The guy seems a little bug eyed. Being a person with shoulders I think he doesn't have enough myself but that could be just me.

the girl is really cool!but the guy looks like a dork but to me all guys look like dorks!my 2 cents

Remarkable, considering the poly count. Don't underestimate the value of these in Poser, Phil. With everyone going towards higer resolutions it's easy to forget how useful these two would be for crowd, street, or party scenes. If you were inclined in that direction I'd suggest providing the woman without the hair, though. Bottom line: Impressive job.

Wow, Phil, those are great! I anticipate that a lot of people who do animations would be interested in such figures. Constructive Criticism: I agree with GhostofMacBeth: the man seems a bit too bug-eyed. However you did the eyes on the woman you really got it right; can he have that too? The shoulders as well he is a bit under-endowed in that area by my lights. :) One further: though they look fine in mesh, in render the woman's feet look a bit cumbersome. Perhaps a bit of a taper, or make them a little more petite? Just a wee bit. Excellent work!

I've heard that Mike was modeled after Steve Cooper. Is this guy modeled after you Phil? Is that lady your wife? LOL The lady is super but old google eyes, hey he just doesn't match her. It's like Marilyn Monroe meets Jerry Lewis. I can't stand it, I'm laughing so hard I can barely type. You know though, I do like him, just not as a couple for her. OK, I regained my composure. I think he'd make a good Dudly-Do-Right kind of guy. I think these are great, they really may answer some of the crowd scene problems in Poser. Good luck PhilC!

Reminds me of the LowRes Poser 4 figures that I use for early animateing- Except you new to have more detail in the facial area. I would try low res conforming clothing insted of just mapping them to the figures- would give more definition. The chicks face looks great, but the dude looks weird-could be the eye though. Dendras has a really good point though. I work low res all the time (of course in poser you can just switch the figure with a high res figure) With yours you could actually go for close ups.

Thanks for your comments folks. I would tend to agree with you on his eyes and shoulders. I had set myself a limit of 2500 faces per figure including the hair so I have some to spare to work on the shoulders. Her hair is separate but included in the above faces tally. The eyes are surprisingly difficult to get right, a small tweak makes an enormous difference. I think I just struck lucky with her but will continue to work on him.
Who are they modeled on? LOL not saying but no its not me. If you've met me in an Atmosphere world you will know what I look like. :)
Any thoughts on names?

Beth (all-American!) and Charles (blue-blood Brit!) =)
You did a great job on joining the arms with the shoulder/torso area. I don't know why, but so many human 3D models have funny armpits. I like the guy's pointy chin, probably because I am rather sick of Michael and his oh-so-granite jaw. =)

They both look rather northern european or scandinavian. how about Freya for the lady Sander for the guy.
jamball77 posted Tue, 11 December 2001 at 8:41 AM
i really think the eyes and nose are the key to her "look". She doesn't have that pinch nosed Posette look. Very sleek, and that's low res or hi.

As always, great stuff Phil. I do agree about the eyes on the Dork (I think the label Dork will stick with all the lowres males in this forum LOL) Now, how about sharing the process of creation? James

Well on this one I started by drawing an outline on the ground. Just like the chalk marks at a murder scene. :)
Then I just kinda fleshed him out by drawing lines and moving the points. I used a render of the P4 guy from side and front as a guide. But thats about it. I don't have a "create a human figure" single click tool in Truespace :)

Hey, jamball77, what tools did you use to bring J.C. Denton into Poser? Have you made him posable yet? I'm curious because someone recently asked me how to import Half-Life's Team Fortress characters to make a movie.
Strangechilde posted Tue, 11 December 2001 at 7:13 PM
That's a lot better! No more bug-eyes, better shoulders. I'm impressed with the poses. He's very versatile for such a low-res figure.
jamball77 posted Tue, 11 December 2001 at 9:45 PM
Lightwave (any modeler will work) UVMapper, and Photoshop. I kinda reverse engineered him as an experiment. He's a copyrighted character so strictly speaking I'm not sure I can really even post his ugly puss and the texture map was made directly from screen shots. Confession being good for the soul and hard on the reputation. naturally as an experiment it's only for show can't even think about distribution. Some of the best learning I do is to try to replicate someone elses effort. So, this isn't art! I'm still a technician. Like PhilC said. When you model the first thing you need is reference material. Orthogonal views are best. Front view and Left or Right view. Then match your geometry (Smooth shift and scale and loft the geometry) into place. I articulated it in Poser Pro Pack. I never got the hang of the Phi-thingie.

Looks great! Incidently, if PhilC is counting "faces" as Max does, as half of most polygons, by way of comparison the Posette is about 30,000 faces, Vickie 60,000, Dina some-really-high number, so these are really good looking really low poly figures!
Kiera posted Wed, 12 December 2001 at 8:02 AM
Ahh.. Dork as a reference explains the initial bug-eyed look for the guy. Dork is mighty bug-eyed. =) Your revision looks fantastic.

Much Much better! Shoulders and all. Plus IMHO all men look better in clothes. I'm told Uniforms are best, He'd be pretty dashing in your Captains Uniform Phil :)
