Hello folks! I downloaded the Bryce 5 patch today. It is found on the following link ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/Bryce/5.0.1/win/ My question is: has anyone found out the approvals yet? The readme file says that among others there are fixes for the Tree Lab, Light Lab, Terrain Editor a s o. I haven't tested yet but I'm curious about the render time. Anyone who knows? - Zoot

Groovy. How did you find this? I saw NOTHING on the Corel site about it, but Cute picked the FTP off my clipboard just fine. I am not sure this is official yet LOL.

They're the official patches but no offical release yet. You stumbled across this before you were supposed to. But hey I dl'ed them already and so be it. Oh and I think they meant to name the second update Lighting and not Lightning right?

Hey Quik, I saw the same thing it looked official too me but then again I was drinkin' a few Coronas. I hope they speed the render time. I put together a new server with two 1 gig athlons and a gig of memory and that bad boy still takes a long time to render. I remember sitting there thinking, "Yeah this'll take fives mintues." Oops I was wrong it took 7 hours to render an animation and that animation was 800 megs. My jaw dropped.

Subjective analysis: The patch GREATLY improves performance of the wizards, but render times don't seem much improved (but I am using a tiny processor so it may not show no matter what they did to it, S). Also I couldn't swear to it but it looks like some new skies and stuff in there also...

JWB: I had no problem with the Objects, Materials or Skies presets. But what I did was that I saved all my presets before I installed the patch and after the patch was installed I copied all my presets back again. Otherwise I found the patch to work well. - Zoot

Thanks for input, folks. It's a mystery-- the names magicaly restored themselves for a couple of Bryce sessions, then just as magically disappeared again. Maybe I will save them and reimport to see if that does the trick on a more permanent basis. JWB
