I remmember awhile back someone mentioned problems with Poser4 running on fast systems. I getting ready to upgrade my Pentium 233mhz to a new dual cpu motherboard with two Pentium II 400mhz processors. And adding 128megs SDRAM. Does anyone have a similarly configured machine. How is render time? Any info is appreciated

Sorry Anton, but Poser does not support Dual CPUs. But with a P400 with 128RAM you have a real fast engine there, I know what I'm saying, I have a P400 with 256RAM and its real fast. Chris

under win nt 4.0 you can set it so the poser has its own dedicated cpu thats what i did and its works out great

I was curious about this thread because I thought (most) applications (in this case poser) don't have a concept of multiprocessors. That is, you can't program an application to find a processor and run on it, you are allocated resources (in this case a processor) by the OS. So the real key is having an OS that supports dual processors (as Viper mention about NT 4.0). I believe Win 2000 will support multiprocessors ? And then again I might be completely out in left field on this one without a cpu. Reed

So if Pose rdoesn't support dual CPUs then Poser will simply run as if it had one 400mhz processor? Yes? I do plan on using NT with the new board. So one processor can work only for Poser and the other will handle everything else? Just making sure I understand. Thanks. Anton

I have some friends using Windows 2000 and they say it slowed their machines way down. They feel there are too many reduntant features like a message when you go into control panel that says "Are you sure you should be in here?". :) I'll probably go with NT myself.

Poser4 spawns about 2-3 threads when it's running, or so says task manager. Therefore, it does take advantage of 2 cpu's, in a limited way.

like i said in nt you can set it up so that posers has its own prossesor to handle the work and to even get support for a dual prossesor you need nt 98 does not support multi prossesor

I have a dual 400 PII and 256 Megs of Ram. Render Times in poser are next to nill :) I am reunning under Win 2000 2128 and everything works nice. I can run Max R3 Poser Bryce and Photoshop with no slow downs. I dunno but this is nice and fast. I built this hummer myself and have had no truck with problems. If speed probs are your troubles bro, it probably means overheating. Check in your case and see A) How many cooling fans you have (I have 5, 2 on chips 3 in case itself to push air out and in.) b) BIOS setting for overclocking (DO NOT OVERCLOCK no matter what! It burns up chips and on duals it is very dangerous to chips mother board and fires.) c) Your OS. Are you running Win NT 4? What SP? SP5 solved a few problems with mother boards and chip configurations....If your under 2000 What RC? also check your priorities...Is Poser 4 using both processors? Hope this helps. Local

Thanks. I haven't installed the new hardware yet(tomorrow). All this helps. Anton
