Ok, this is kind of an extension of the last question. I am making a Bryce of my home and thus I wanted to know how big a Bryce Unit is. BUT, when I went to dl the DEM of my area I found it was ummm confusing. The file is somenumber.dem.stdt.tar.gz (I kid you not) and is somewhat over 14 megs. Since I use dial-up (stop laughing, it's all I can afford)I decided before I spend an hour or so on a dl I'd try and get clear on what I was getting. Does anyone know what this file might be? I assume its ALL of those formats (since I can't imagine the DEM of Syracuse NY is 14 megs!!!), Any help on getting a DEM off the web and onto my Bryce screen would be greatly appreciated.

http://edcftp.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/DEM/250/
try there.
for yours use an untar utility- there are most likely a bunch of files in there, not all of which you can use....
