Wow, really good! Would like to know some tips on the settings/filters you used to achieve that look.

Legume, I can never figure out if I like or dislike your artwork...maybe thats what makes your pictures true artwork in my eyes...

cool!...great effects...

sir_pyke posted Sun, 06 January 2002 at 1:22 PM

wow....deep..the sound of one hand clapping clap clap clap howd you do the melty thingy?

Legume posted Sun, 06 January 2002 at 4:36 PM

For the "melty thingy" I used Alien Skin Eye Candy 4000's fantastic "drip" filter. If you've ever used Eye Candy, this filter set is similar to its' earlier versions, but only as much as Arnold Schwartzeneggar is similar to little baby Arnold. It's bigger, richer, and has a ton more muscle. As for the rest of the image's overall look, two words: "Wacom Graphire" I tend to work on my images in a medium size, about 3000x3000 pixels, which allows me to zoom in real close for hand drawing detail...close enough that the screw-ups aren't too noticeable ;) I also try to get by with MUCH less than the 16 million colors that most folks like to use. Skygirl, thanks for the compliment. I'm glad you judge my work on a case-by-case basis. You can never tell if I'm going to post a lovely scene of two ponies cavorting in a field, or a clown pulling frenchmen out of a gruesome surgical incision. I like it that way. Keeps folks guessing, and keeps me from falling into a rut.

That's awesome, Dr. Legume. Worthy of and reminiscent of the glory days of EC Crime SuspenStories, Weird Science Fantasy, Vault of Horror, etc. People like Ghastly, Reed Crandall, G. Ingels, George Roussos et al are probably smiling (zombie like) wherever they are. Larry F

sir_pyke posted Sun, 06 January 2002 at 8:18 PM

WOW 3000x3000 pixel...daaaamn ....i usally do everything at a 800 scale...i guess i should do it that big..then i could do fine detail..make a mistake and no one will no...i should try that..hmmmm....interesting tidbit

Sir Pyke, you'll find that your plug-ins work a LOT better at that size as well. I've found that if you apply a plug-in to a small image you get a really strong effect, but it's hard to use for subtle touches, whereas when you use those same plug-ins on a larger image, it might barely be noticeable...then you just keep applying it until you've worked your way up the the effect you want without overpowering it.

For example, Sir Pyke, I applied a halftone dot filter to this same image, the one on the left at twice the size of the right.

Big difference.

amazing...then i am going to ask a stupid question now..when you are finished from working at a 3000 pixel err pic..do you resize it to be smaller??or do you leave it like that??

Legume posted Sun, 06 January 2002 at 11:12 PM

I keep the large version for my personal archive, burnt to CD. I resize the image smaller to post to the web.

Thanks. I did render the Batman in Poser, using a free figure I downloaded from the 3D Comic Collective. Great site, if you haven't been there, check it out.
