Papu, Mike K and Hdrider now all have textures for the Supermodel Essentials II jeans up, and they look so nice, but- gee, so many downloads already! I wish I'd sold half that many jeans that take the textures, though. Honest, they only work on the mesh they were intended for, don't waste your download time if you don't have it. Ya gotta read the text on the thumb, really!

maybe they are hoping to remap them to standard vicky jeans. i don't even want to tell the other possibility...

Kiera posted Wed, 16 January 2002 at 3:36 PM

Having worked on that texture, I know remapping it would be extremely difficult, unless they use a transmap.. SMV's body proportions are so different from standard Vicki that my attempt to remap my own texture to Vicki's jeans turned out to be more trouble that it was worth.

Hey here comes another possibility: I ordered the Supermodel Essentials II a few days ago and received a mail with buying possibilities. I decided to order with PayPal and now I wait for the next credit card bill in order to become a verified user. So I decided in the meantime to download the free textures as I hope to become owner of the Essentials II very soon...

and then there's.... people who might browse free stuff with thumbnails turned off. ;) (well, it IS possible.) make it go a heck of a lot faster, too. or people who just want to clone a little square for making their own jean textures, i dunno. i sometimes pick up clothing stuff for characters i dont have. heck, i put philc's classic thingy for victoria onto michael! :)

Or you may plan to buy the item in the next couple of weeks and you download the texture so that you don't have to search for it later. I know I've done that :-)

One other possibility Jim. I know the textures only work on your props, but I've made a set of vicki jeans myself. (not as good as yours but my best effort to date.) However I'm lousy at textures. I download the freebies in hope of getting some hints from them on how to improve my meager efforts. Here's a rough render of what I've made so far. mike

Well, i bought it and i Love it!! Thanks Jim!! ;-) And thanks Papu, Mike K & Hdriver for your superb textures! I've come across another great Jeans texture... So, as soon as it's Done, i'll ask someone to host it! Tada! Anik

remap as in uvmapper remap of the obj so other jeans use jim's template and hence use those textures. i spent quite a few hours on my texture submitted for that contest and i would like to use my texture without having to buy the essentials collection (cos i just forked out $10k for aircon and i'm absolutely strapped, but cool ;) ), so yep, i am gonna remap SOME jeans from SOMEWHERE to use that bloody texture. lol what's your thoughts on using your template Jim? would you be uncomfortable if some other jeans obj were released in freestuff that were remapped to use your template? i can keep it to myself, but please let us know. :)

Put me in the category of "seriously considering SMV or SMMV in the near future" and not wanting to hunt down the tex later. OT, do the SMV clothes have a "no nipple" morph? I don't have a problem with nipples, but some audiences might. Just curious...

Yet another possbilitiy is that we have large numbers of non-English speaking members who simply can't read the writing and go by the picture. I've certianly noticed that no matter what I write on my thumbs or how obscure the item that's required, the number of downloads is roughly proportional to the attractiveness of the picture on the thumb. However, on the whole I think it's just a question of download first and ask questions later.

or someone spent a long night in arms of deaths's brother before.

ronknights posted Thu, 17 January 2002 at 7:14 AM

I hate to say this, but I find the thumb hard to read. All the text is squished together. There is not enough leading between the lines.

Jim Burton posted Thu, 17 January 2002 at 7:22 AM

Oh, AprilYSH- I have no problem with that idea at all! Actually, I think part of the answer would be to allow a short description on Free stuff items, I know that would mean less thumbs on a page (or a bigger page) but I think it would be worthwhile. kbade- SMV doesn't have a "no nipple morph" either, but now that you mention it, it would be a good itea. I decided against a "extended nipple" morph, but going the otherway sounds useful. SMV gets upgraded all the time, the current version of the CR2 is 16, I make about ever 3rd or 4th one public as free upgrade, I also finally upgraded the file that is sold, so for a short period of time everybody is on the same version, even me! Yeah, I don't want to think about the other possablity either! ;-)

Another possibility is someone might download the textures (as I sometimes do, but haven't this time) to adapt them in a paint program to Vicki's pants -- rather than UVMapping, just using the texture as a base for another one. Mike
