Does anyone know from experience if bryce5 renders twice as fast on a dual Athlon PC than on a single Athlon PC?

No it doesn't. I'm running dual athlon 1 gig chips on tyan board and a gig of memory and it still renders slow as...well you know.

I do know this that there is at least a 1/3 increase over AMD vs. P4. I have used a 1.4 Athlon and a 1.7 P4 and the Athlon is far superior!

I remember seeing a post a while back stating that you run lightening and Bryce simultaneously on the same machine to use the second processor. This should double your rendering speed? Yeah... Athlons kick proverbial butt.

You are right Hog, this is the tread http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=408313 Showing with Bryce and Bryce Lightning to use near the 100% power of the computer (you will never get 100%) With windows xp or 2000 you get around 95% to 98% when doing a render. Pleiades
