This is the piece I had in mind when I asked whether anyone knew where to find Pshent, and Cybermonk created one for me. It's now in Freestuff, texture too. Of all the Cthuloid gods, Nyarlathotep the Crawling Chaos, the Messenger of the Gods is the most personable. He has a thousand faces, one of them 'the old face of a young pharaoh'. I was going for kindly, but condescending. Your comments especially about the lighting; I suck at lighting! are very much appreciated. MikeRobe by Thip, Ankh necklace, from which the Daz staff top is spawned, by Lourdes (I think!)

Oh, and I know about the texture stretchingbelieve me, it's better than it was, but it has a ways to go and the fact that the reds of the Pshent and the robe clash. The final image will be B&W.

Hrmm... I'm not sure if he lookd kindly but condescending... he looks more "amused" to me... but an excellent effort overall! The lighting isn't bad, it'll help once there is something in the background.

You're right, Cin. He does look amused, now that you draw my attention to it. I think I may have wanted him to look that way... he is a jolly sort, when he's not being an 18-foot-tall slimy thing on fire. :)

Slimy and on fire? Cool!

You didn't say what you're trying to achieve by way of lighting, but it looks fine to me. You'll find plenty of light sets here in Free Stuff (including some by Mazak, SnowSultan, and megaionstorm), if you don't feel like wrestling with it yourself.

Strangechilde posted Mon, 21 January 2002 at 6:30 PM

Oh, but I like wrestling with it myself! I wanted simple, dark, and low-key. He's mostly lit from below, with a single spotlight. I have trouble even aiming lights, and the fact that my poor tiny computer can barely handle this file in fact, crashed three times when I tried to render it, even when I had restarted, which I must do if I've done anything before launching Poser, to free up RAM doesn't help. When I put in the background it will have to be composite in Photoshop. sigh I tried more 'dramatic' lighting but his texture is so dark that it just meant that you couldn't see much of anything.

Once you get your character set up, export him (and his outfit) as a single .obj file. Use that in your scene, rather than the character and all its morphs. It'll save you some memory. I've only got 128MB at the moment, but I can render scenes with Memory Hog Michael by using that trick. So you lit him from below, huh? I guess that's why I could see up his sleeve so well. Select your spotlight, go to the Object menu, and use the Point At command. It helps with aiming.

Curse me; the ankh is by Cybermonk too; I found the wrong Read Me.

Looking good Strangechilde. That is Lordes' Ankh. the one I made is a little more gothic and less Egyptian.

Thanks for clarifying! (must remember: put readme's in prop folder. Put readme's in prop folder.) Thanks Little_Dragon. I may do just that. I've redone the lighting... maybe post the new version soon... I don't know, I'm just not good at this lighting thing. I'm going to go read all the tutorials I can and then maybe redo it nine or ten more tiimes and see what happens.
