Hello everyone :) I was browsing the Turbo Squid site and found a very nice free model I would like to use. The trouble is that it's a .max file. Is there a way to convert it ? Thanks for your help :)

If you have 3d exploration, it will convert it from max to other formats...

Here you go, try this at the link. 3D Exploration is awesome for making all kinds of conversions including MAX and LightWave scene files to other more common files. It's shareware, but it's fully functional for 30 days.

I have 3d exploration but never had much luck in previewing .max files.... It seems to be missing some parts .... Maybe there is something I don't do right or and option that I don't knnow of ? Elaine

And your Max file will possibly show up in 3DX as a sphere. Checking off the little boxes at the left will make certain objects either visible or invisble, and then you can zoom in to see what you've got. You have to play around with Max files alot, though, but when you convert it you have the option to save all objects or only selected objects.

Thank you for your help :) Well, the model I try to see is a bicyle... I see all the parts except for the wheels......LOL which make this kind of an odd bike ! All the parts are checked but I still can't see them ... Maybe it's the model? Just too bad, it would have been lovely in a scene ... Elaine

3D Exploration doesn't always show MAX files correctly, I've found, and they could be there. Are the wheels listed in the list of objects?

You will also have a problem converting Max files in 3D Exploration, if the file created in Max included the use of any 3rd party plugins. Some scenes require the plugin to be present when it is opened, especially if it is a Modifier. That is very often the reason why some conversions are successful, and others not. Martin
