I just uploaded "La Cupola" to my new site and am holding a contest for those who are interested in texturing the Poser version. The winner of the contest will receive a free copy of my new character "Shard to be released soon. She comes with 41 textures, 58 Mat poses, 8 body poses, 13 lip colors, Light & dark textures, 14 eyeshadows, 10 eyes, 10 lights, and 16 preset makeup coordinations. We are also working on some body jewels to include in the package.

Basically the rules are that you submit your entries here and I decide which entry I like best. (It's my contest afterall.) The winner agrees to allow me to include the texture with "La Cupola" for future downloads.

Contest deadline is Friday, February 8 at 8:00pm EST.

Good luck!

This is the prize...Shard

cwshorty posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 5:38 AM

Is there a limit to the amount of entries?

Exotica posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 5:40 AM

Limit of 2 entries per person. Btw, the jewels shown are not those which will be included in the package. These are by Yamato and are available at his site.

thanks

Krel posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 6:17 AM

Sharde is so gorgeous and my word, 41 textures...unbelievable! I'm off to make cupola textures. :-)

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

Exotica posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 7:31 AM

OOps, forgot to include the nail textures. Make that 54 textures in all.

Exotica posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 7:45 AM

What gorgeous eyes - this is wonderful, thanks for the opportunity - gotta go get to work! :-)

Exotica posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 2:58 PM

Just another headshot of Shardusing one of the makeup presets and light sets that come with the package.

SPIRESMEDIA posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 5:28 PM

i'm not sure i understand....do you mean there are FIFTY-FOUR skin textures included with this character??? tam ;o)

Exotica posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 8:10 PM

No, hon - 54 textures in all 13 lips, 13 nails, 10 eyes, 2 body, and the rest are head textures with different features (no brows, eyeshadows, light & dark).

Exotica posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 9:20 PM

Hope this clarifies things: There are 56 textures in all. These include: 18 Head textures, 2 Body textures, 10 Eye textures, 13 Lip textures, 13 Nail textures. In addition, there are 58 Mat poses, 8 body poses, 10 light sets including 2 global sets. Also, 16 presets (makeup color combinations for those who don't want to fool around with changing eyes lips and shadows). Full color RSRs, 1 lash trans, 1 face pose and of coarse, the character.

Exotica posted Wed, 30 January 2002 at 11:42 PM

For contest entries please post a render here and when all entries are in I will request that the finalists send me the actual texture so that I may test it. Thank you. Pam

Exotica posted Thu, 31 January 2002 at 12:12 AM

Also, you must include some sort of texture for the floor plane even though the model itself doesn't have a floor.

hecate posted Thu, 31 January 2002 at 1:08 AM

I loved the lines of the model so much,I wanted to play with it immediately, so here's the texture I came up with. 8-)

Thanks for your entry Hecate!

Hdrider posted Thu, 31 January 2002 at 1:29 PM

Hello, Okay, here's my humble entry #1. Note: I did remap the obj file to make some of the textures easier to map. This image is a quicky done with Vue4. I may try some alternates also.

Later...

No good deed goes unpunished ...

Exotica posted Thu, 31 January 2002 at 2:50 PM

Remapping is fine. It is also ok to include props, figures with your renders. Thanks for your entry Hd.

Exotica posted Thu, 31 January 2002 at 3:03 PM

Hey all: don't forget to overlook the general things people look for in contest entries besides just the main element (in this case the texture itself). It's hard to overlook things like presentation, lighting, how well you work with the room etc. so just keep these things in mind when submitting your entries. remember you can submit entries of two different textures. So if you've already submitted an entry and feel perhaps that you can do the lighting better or what not, feel free to resubmit another entry for that texture.

Kiera posted Thu, 31 January 2002 at 8:47 PM

Is it ok to include props textured by other people in my render? I am about 80% done and wanted to ask before I got too attached to my room props. ;)

Exotica posted Thu, 31 January 2002 at 9:40 PM

Sure, props by other people are ok.

Kiera posted Sat, 02 February 2002 at 3:18 PM

OK, here's my entry. :) No postwork except resizing. I feel the need to give some some credit and provide some explanation.

There are two versions of this texture, one with the portrait above the fireplace and one without. The idea behind it is this: there are so many room and fantasy settings for Vicki, soft and feminine, that I wanted to create something that would work for Mike/Dork as well. Even more importantly, I wanted to use colors that would work with freely available props and textures without alteration. And that brings me to the credits section:

The NON free stuff:

About the portrait:
The portrait was painted specifically for this room texture using clone brushes over a Poser render. It's hard to see in this picture, but the items used are:

OK, that's it. Sorry for the longwinded explanation, but I felt it necessary considering the amount of props used. Thanks for the contest. =)

Exotica posted Sat, 02 February 2002 at 3:29 PM

Thanks for your entry kieraw. Just a few questions for clarification: Does the portrait come with the texture Ie; is it on the texture itself? Would any of the props be included or will you provide links to where they can be had in a readme along with this render should you be the winner. Now some good news. For everyone interested in seeing the jewels that come with the character. Richabri has finally finished the set and they are spectacular! I'll try to post a pic sooon but in the meantime just go to the galleries and do a search for my name. There you'll find a reneder by Xurge and by myself (both called Shard which show the jewels.

Kiera posted Sat, 02 February 2002 at 3:32 PM

There are two versions of the texture: one with the portrait on the wall and one without. That way the user could have a choice between putting their own prop there or using the painted on version. None of the props would be included but I have links for them all (except the Daz couch! Gotta get that this week before they take it away!). =)

Exotica posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 12:28 PM

Thanks VirtualSite. To All: I won't make comments on entries until all are in so as not to give away any preference of one over the other. Just thought I'd let you all know. Pam

VirtualSite posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 12:32 PM

WHAT??? We want feedback now dammit!!!!!!! =) You know, even if this doesnt win, if you want it, youre welcome to it for your site. I had a ball putting it together, and it was definitely a challenge to figure out how make the interior dome work. So if nothing else, thanks for the fun. =)

Exotica posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 12:37 PM

I'd love to get my hands on that book. Did you get it at a major bookstore? Also, I encourage any non-winners (there are no losers) to put up there textures in freestuff.

Exotica posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 12:38 PM

That is, after the contest is over.

VirtualSite posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 12:39 PM

Its out of print now, unfortunately. It was reprinted by Dover, and I think its now gone out of their catalogue as well. But you can sometimes find the errant copy at a used book store in the art/architecture section. Well worth tracking down.

Exotica posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 12:42 PM

Thanks. But I probably have a snowball's chance in hell of findind it. LOL.

VirtualSite posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 12:42 PM

Oops. Just saw the note about the floor texture. Hope you wont mind if I put that in and resubmit...

Side note: On Amazon ZShops they sell this type of thing a lot. Might want to check out the search result for Polychrome II there.

Ms_Outlaw posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 12:52 PM

Not sure I'll get one done pd11, but wanted to say she looks beautiful. A really great prize. Of course you are a pro when it comes to eyes ~G~

VirtualSite posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 1:16 PM

Okay, deleted the one above. Heres the one with the requested floor texture. Sorry about that. Hope that doesnt preclude me from submitting a second entry. I saw the render of the character with the jewels in place, and I *want that prize!!!!!* =)

VirtualSite posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 1:23 PM

I just realized that when I deleted the post, I took the info with it and some people may not have a clue what book is being talked about. So, again, the texture work here is taken from Racinets Polychrome II, first published in the 19th century, reprinted by Dover, and (I think) out of print now. But well worth looking for as an excellent resource. BTW: Kieraw, thanks for the link -- those posters of the Acropolis are gorgeous...

Kiera posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 2:05 PM

Ahha, I am working on a second entry myself. ;) Glad you liked the link, I was pretty thrilled with the posters myself. =)

hecate posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 2:35 PM

Well, another go at the first tex I did...

Potted plant by Cin & Co.- texture on the pot by me
Candlesticks by Katje- texture by me
Urns by ConsciousB
Statues are Posette and Dork

There's a version of the texture with the fire, and one
without... it just seemed a bit of memory saving to add
it with a texture, rather than use a model.

Exotica posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 3:58 PM

VirtualSite: Gueuss what. I found the book at Borders Book Store. Yeah! And, no an update of an entry does not count as a second entry. Only if the texture is changed does it count as a second entry. You get the picture I hope.

VirtualSite posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 7:49 PM

Okay, second entry (this one with a floor!), sort of a Victorian Chinoise fantasy. Some of the elements this time around are from a Danish toy theater, published in 1908, of one that stood in the Tivoli Gardens.

Exotica posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 7:57 PM

Thank you - I will say - great lighting. This room is hard to light nicely.

Exotica posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 10:38 PM

I apologize to anyone who has tried to download the Cupola and was unable to. The server was temporarily down and is fixed now.

Barbarellany posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 12:24 PM

I couldn't post the pict to this thread so it is at the other one regarding this contest. I don't know why I had a problem. Sorry for the inconvenience

Exotica posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 1:25 PM

Please post your entries here. Thanks.

Barbarellany posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 2:57 PM

Again I try. Can't figure out why I could post on the other thread and not here. Sorry about the lighting. It's a bit bright on top for what I wanted on the bottom.

Exotica posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 4:06 PM

Thank you Barbarellany.

Hdrider posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 5:39 PM

Hello, Here's my second entry. I thought I would try an Egyptian theme for a change using a couple of props/characters found around on the net. Enjoy.

No good deed goes unpunished ...

Exotica posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 7:14 PM

The contest is now closed. Thanks for all of your wonderful entries. I'll be contacting the finalists for a copy of their textures for testing and then posting the results of the contest here as soon as I've had a chance to review them. Good luck all! Pam
