:) Looking forward to a swim! :)) I wish the weather could turn a little warmer first, though! Britt

Gee, Pen, the tub wasn't enough for your? (grin) Well, the changing room(s) looks great! Looks like a lot of work went into it. If the diving board is at proper size/ratio with a 6 foot figure, I'd have to say it looks a bit fat, though. Hmmmm, tub, pool set, where is Mr. Hefner...hehe?

Hmm... The board/platform needs to be squeezed through x-axis scaling, something I forgot to do when I ran the test render; won't take but five seconds to fix it though, so I'll fix that part right now. Also, if it's too high, y-axis trans can be used to drive it down into the ground until you have the height you want/need, without worrying about it moving too far back/forth. /P

Penguinisto, I am very impressed by all this. Tell me, is this your first such project, or have you been doing this awhile? Ron

Actually, I'm very new to AC3D, the program I'm using to build it all these days. (Can't afford 3DS Max, I don't do warez, and Discreet don't make a Linux version anyhoo.) I've had LOTS of previous experience in UnrealEd (a free level/model editor that comes w/ Unreal Tournament, made to interface with the Unreal gaming engine), Q3Radiant (a third-party UnrealEd-like tool for Quake3 for maps/levels) and before that, Qoole (Quake Object-Oriented Level Editor) for Quake2. These are pretty much my first go at modelling without the rules, strictures, and abilities that the gaming world had; I'm sort of like a Martian learning how they do things down here on Earth, if you will :) /P

Well, it sure gave you a good background! Or perhaps you just have a mind that understands spatial relationships, 3d and all that stuff. Speaking of money, I thought AC3D was pretty expensive... in the >$500 range.

So just what is AC3D. I never heard of it.
ChuckEvans posted Sat, 02 February 2002 at 8:17 AM
AutoCad 3D. AutoCad is a professional piece of software like Photoshop is. It's the name of the company and they a few things out with their name on it...not sure how much AC3D costs, though. I knew a guy who worked for Snapper (mowers) and he used AC to make those "blowup" parts diagrams at the end of the manual.

I know about AutoCad. I think they're at least up to version 14 by now. I don't know how this AC3D fits into their scheme of things. Last I knew AutoCad was over $1,000. I had a friend who worked for a company that designs airplanes or something like that. Ron

Well, I guess I'll have to get my brain checked...just went to AutoCad site and I don't see it at all...I was going on memeory that led me to believe they came out with a 3D package 2 or 3 years ago. So, hehe, looks like I have egg on my face. (Hey, I got started on that fabulous thread of yours...what is sexy...and took so long to type, I lost my connection...LOL. Too lazy to go back and re-type)
ronknights posted Sat, 02 February 2002 at 10:00 AM
Chuck, take it from me, some companies come out with a product, then dump it. I saw that happen with Corel Dream3D for one example. And don't worry about egg on the face, unless you're eating an egg sandwich, then you might want to wipe it off, grin. Don't you hate it when you lose a connection? Sometimes I write a message in notepad, then copy and psste...Usually if I have reason to believe I might lose my connection. I remain interested in your views.. I don't blame you for not wanting to retype them. Ron

Well, my friend, it WAS REALLY a good thread. Tho a bit off topic here, I continue... I was amazed (at first) at the number of gay/bi responses, but then after thinking about it, realized it IS an artist community so one might expect some sort of untraditional choices. Now, I've gotten interested again...LOL...is the thread still active?

Heh - AC3D can be had for $40, and in both Linux and Windows, only takes up qabout 4MB of HD space. Sorry I couldn't answer faster to save y'all time :) Anyhoo, link is attached. /Pronknights posted Sat, 02 February 2002 at 12:31 PM
I bookmarked the page. I can't help wonder if it is any easier to figure out than Amapi, Blender, or all those other programs that others recommend. So far all of them have left me scratching my head. I am concerned about using a program that has save disabled until you pay for it. I'd rather have the program refuse to work after 30 days, then work again once you paid for it. Right now, even $40 is difficult for us. And I could think of many things for $40 that I'm sure would be worth the investment.. I'd love to finally get the Millennium girls or boys. Oh, and we're saving up for a better HP printer so we can start printing some of our masterpieces. Ron
