This has never happened to me before, and I'm stumped! I've made a model in Amapi, exported it as an .obj file, imported it to Poser, resized it, exported it out WITH groups checked. Opened it in UV mapper, - mapped it, - saved the model again and the texture map. No matter what I do, PARTS of the model turns black. Any known causes and solutions? Thanks! Britt

Can you show a picture? =)

Check to see if the object colour is set to balck. Make sure it's set to white. That's about all the help I can think of.

and yes, the obj color is set to white. :)

What does your texture map look like? Is it possible you have overlapping texture info? A black section on a texture map can be projected across more than one surface if the polygons on the texturemap overlap. Care to post the map?

Yep, I am struggling with that right now for pd's character contest... I bet you have single black pixels stretching across polygons due to mapping. Try filling the entire map with something crazy, like bright pink, to see if you still get black sections. Very nice crown, btw. =)

Aha!! That is prolly it. Will try that later today.. and see what happens! Thanks! :) Britt

Very odd. I haven't used plant studio in Poser so I am not sure what is going on here. =/

There also might be some pretty degenerate polygons. Try pressing "Insert" on your keyboard when you bring it into UVMapper, and it should tell you if any degenerate polygons are found, or not.

heyas; check the reflection colour, and try turning it to white, if it is black. degenerate facets end up black. also check that the polygons are not double-sided. poser flakes out on those, as well.

Hi! It's me again. lol How can I fix the polygons? It seems that that's the problem. I tried to set the reflection color to white, but no go. Is there a way that I can fix those polygons? And How do I "see" on the model that they're corrupt? Britt
brittmccary posted Sat, 02 February 2002 at 6:33 PM
Yup... pressing the isert button in UV mapper returned a message that 30 facet were corrupted, - and it asked me if I wanted it fixed. Of course I responded NO (jk).. We shall see! Maybe you guys have deserved a rose tonight! :)) Britt

Hmm... not sure I'm making progress. The stem and leaves are now green, - but the petals are still black... Arghh! Anything else I can do to fix this problem??? Anyone?
Kiera posted Sat, 02 February 2002 at 7:05 PM
Now I think you need to look into the two-sided polygon thing that Valandar mentioned.

Hmmm? This sounds famillar. I've run across the same problem with objects I made in Amorphium Pro. They worked fine in Bryce but not in Poser. I found to options to deal with it. #1 Does Amapi have a smoothing filter? In Amorphium, I found using it on my object before exporting it as an obj. file works, but it may round edges more then you want. You'll have to play with it to see how much you need to smooth it, to fix it. You can test it in Poser by applying any texture to it. Once you have it all fixed, then you can UV map it. #2 Export it as a DFX. file then import it into Poser, Use the grouping tool to creat a new UVed prop. Then export the new prop as an obj. file, then use UV mapper. Hope that helps. :D
