Sheesh... the style of my earlier posts is making me feel realy old :) So here is something completely different :) Maybe it's not 'modern', so,if not,you young un's had better drag me into line :) I guess it also raises the question of whether it is photography, or not. I would never claim it is a 'photograph', but it is 'derived' from a B&W neagtive, using techniques that could be reproduced in a wet darkroom, so I'm happy to regard it as 'photography'. In fact the original shot was taken with a derivative approach in mind.

take care all,

Mike

So you saw the Count of Monte Christo too eh'. Nice picture. Where does the rusty red color come from? Bsteph

Mike, I really like this pic. It has a very strong feeling to it. I really love how you emphasized the edges of the building... Great Job, Andrew

Definitely Gothic, I love what you did to those bricks, the colour / light on the building works really well. I'm not so sure about the edges, divides the picture up too much, but that's just me : )

For Bsteph and anyone else who is interested. I worked in Photoshop and started by duplicating the layer (working in RGB mode). I inverted the second layer and combined the two using the hard light option. From then on I just played around with the colour balance, contrast etc. of the original layer :) I've included the original scan in this post. If anyone else wants to play around with it please feel free to do so, I'd love to see what others come up with and I have a folder full of negatives of similar quality :)

When I was an active photo club memeber, about 15 years ago now, this sort of thing was very popular, but also very difficult to do in the amateaur darkroom because of registration problems. Now Photoshop has made it so much easier, it seems to have gone out of fashion :)

Sorry, but I seem to be having a lot to say at the moment, so I hope I'm not coming across as being too 'pushy'. I developed Chronic Fatigue Syndrome about 6 years ago and haven't done much photography for a while now, it just feels good to be doing some again :)

Very, very cool Mike/bandred.....I can really appreciate both images. My own personal tastes, I think I prefer your original....I can see this one with a red 25a filter to produce a cool ominous sky. Oh and a late welcome to the group from me...I liked your other image too, but didn't have the chance to reply with all the other stuff going on in here. :~)

I am, therefore I create.......

The first one reminds me of a movie still.....I like both, and I see Rapunzel's face in the window and her long red hair streaming down the side of the tower......

This is very interesting. Of course there are churches like this. However I never thought of doing something like this to them. Don't know why. PS I like the edges!!! Bsteph
