Jane found this on our walk too...I did a few things to it after I scanned it in on my Canon 1220U to try and get enhanced detail from the original...once again there's a link to the same image (only larger) Thanks for looking... :-)>

Oh, Alpha, now you've gotten him started!

PunkClown posted Thu, 14 February 2002 at 12:25 PM

Hmmm....they're for my private collection Alpha! LOL! Oh, and I forgot to mention...I'm fairly sure this is a tail feather from a Kookaburra.

You got some really nice effects here, I really like the top right one. I can't begin to imagine what's in your private collection... ; )

Cool experiments! I think I like the top-right the best. Tail feather from a kookaburra? Aren't they found like in Australia or New Zealand or thereabouts? Heh, sorry, I thought you were in the USA..never a kookaburra to be seen here. :)

Hi there... I cannot have the time to follow Render regularly due to the busy preparations for a major exhibition which will be held open from 18th Feb to 28th Feb... Such projects are fun and a pleasure to participate in, but at the same time are serious burdens of stres until they are commenced......at least for me... :) Me and 20 other friends (making up a small artistic community named "Thema-Non-Thema") are participating in this exhibition that is to be the 2nd of ours. If you'd like to see what I did for our first exhibition and would like to read the short story of "Thema-Non-Thema", you may like to visit the presented link (some of you, like dear Alpha, may have already seen this work though)...

Dear PunkClown, your work here is beautiful and I think "reconstruction" as a whole is very effective, esp. for the first three frames from the left of both upper and lower rows.
May I humbly have an objection for the right-most of the lower row..? :)
As a "deconstruction", each frame has its self abstract beauty, middle two at the lower row, and right-most at the upper being my favourites...
It was a pleasure to see the larger one in your gallery..!

Is it the same feather? The ends seem so wispy. Interesting PC. Bsteph

cool, most of what I would have said has already been done, but yeah, that top right one is pretty cool. (",)

My scanned feathrs have not the clarity yours have, but I have a cheap scanner: Canoscan650U. The little difference in height in the feather made them blurry at the outside. To comfort myself I played with a CromaSolarize-filter and put it on a paper background.

doruksal posted Fri, 15 February 2002 at 6:50 PM

Dear Gunsan, your scanner work is very beautiful, and such a textured paper has just suited the feather perfectly..!
If only (IMHO) the tip of the feather was also in the frame...
All this "feather frenzy" will make me post a "feathered image" after this... :)

A simple scan I made sometime ago. Not much of a post-work.

Thankyou for your comments people... Bsteph this is the same feather, but rescanned on the flip-side, and the histogram levels in the scanner software were played with a bit before scanning to increase the contrast. Varian, I live in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia! Kooka's all around where I live...cheeky little blighters! I like your feathers Gun and Doruk! Gun, your scanner still managed to elicit some fairly fine detail,I always thought my scanner had a fairly shallow depth of field too-if you look at my scan, the quill-end of the feather is not fully focussed. I really like that paper bg too, it suits the image well! Dear Doruk, your Peacock feather is beautiful with some lovely colours...and I love that single strand of feather that curls down and around to the center of the image! I think, having seen your past scans as well, that your scanner gets some really good results, even if itis a bit slow, as you have commented before... ;-)>

gunsan posted Fri, 15 February 2002 at 11:20 PM

The peacockfeather is beautiful, and I agree with Cameron about the little imperfection of the perfectness of the pattern. I will try to learn to use all the settings in my scanner, havent tried with the histogram yet. Thanks for giving me that advice. Here we have only black, brown and white feathers, not fancy ones as kookaburra and peacock, but with a little playing everything is possible :-)

gunsan posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 1:49 AM

Here I tried with the histogram window in the scanner, and every other settings too, but I don't know if it turned out better. Alittle more sharpness perhaps.

PunkClown posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 4:14 AM

I like that version too Gun. Have you tried scanning the feather in at a higher dpi? I usually scan in images at 300 dpi which tends to give me the detail I need without producing too large a file size. I'm not sure of the specifications of your scanner...

JordyArt posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 6:02 AM

Here's my feather contribution; part of a wing found while photographing an industrial site. Photo is as found, with barnacled wood behind. (",)

gunsan posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 7:58 AM

Cameron, this is scanned in 300dpi, but I resized it to fit showing it here. Think I can scan up to 600 0r 1200 dpi, but seldom uses so high resolutions if it is not a very tiny thing or image.300 is my usual. JordyArt, your feathers looks very good on that woodwn background.

PunkClown posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 8:26 AM

I see Gun, I wonder what dpi Doruk scanned his Peacock Feather in, it seems so crisp! Doruk?? Jordy, nice feathers, and the barnacled wood is cool too!

This is all really interesting, I don't use my scanner much, & some great images too. You've gone & got me photographing my feathers again now ; D
