No, this is not an announcement for a free download. It is a comment in regards to my free download.
I rarely visit the forums to socialize but mostly to ask technical questions usually in the Poser Technical forum. But when I do visit the forums to do the former I am mostly welcomed with accusatory and sometimes offensive remarks to my person.
My very ever first free clothing item, HellAndBack, that "blasphemous" morphing undergarment, received such a beating in one of the forums that people forgot the generous act behind it.
I've been so very often accused of plotting some dubious marketing trick. Or playing a practical "joke." Offering people bogus download opportunities only later it will be sold for "$10,000" somewhere. Also for the record, no, I am not trying to infect anyone's computer with some exotic virus. The HellAndBack thread alone is far more interesting.
You see, I would like to point out that people who contributes to the free stuff section suffers from this rare disease called "kindness." It sometimes can be quite debilitating. For example, I got slapped with a huge bill by my hosting service for providing "free stuff" for the community here. A very high fee that will take me sometime to pay. Hence the commercial move (and no, unfortunately, this is not some BS I made up as an excuse.)
And yet, I still managed to provide my latest item LaSeduzione (which I woked very hard for and pay many attention to detail) for free, albeit now, a limited time only.
I am not seeking sympathy nor a pat in the back nor endless words of compliments. I merely like to state that the very people who kept the Free Stuff section full are actually doing the community a very BIG favor. Isn't the free downloads that drive many people here in the first place.
My point being, before cutting my body into pieces and decorating the forums with it, kindly take the issue directly to me first. If I am unreacheable by IM, you can reach me at webmaster@uzilite.com. The latter being a better means of communicating with me.
The issue with La Seduzione:
The side was pulled down temporarily by the hosting service after the first few hours of the launch because of the sudden surge in bandwith.
The .EXE file is a Flash movie stand alone application. It also contains coupons to get the 10 next new clothing items for free from uzilite.com (just joking.)
I don't even know what is the STD(1).VBS. I suspect it comes from the tripod site.
The World Wide Web is populated with "cookies." A fact of life. About 125% website out there places "cookies" on your browsers.
Marque and others, especially to Margue, as a favor to you and to show that I read, comprehend and symphatize with your complaints, from now on there will be no more uzilite.com free downloads. So you really should not worry anymore in the future. That's one paranoia gone for you.
If you'd like to see a non-flash page for the free download, pay me then I will make a special one just for you. Like, dude, I am, like, giving it to you guys for free already!?!
I think Briney Spear is hot.
It seems for every free downloads offer I make I get abused, either from this community or my hosting service and sometimes from the jerk sitting across my room.
I would not mind so much if it was a critique about my modeling skills or my art work (in fact I encourage that kind of criticism) or even grammar correction for my pur Engleeshz but when it directs to my character as a person that is another matter.
Now on to my love life problems. There's this tall brunette, very beautiful. she's French and.....
If you are going to respond to this thread kindly begin with: "Wusamah, you are so handsome and beautiful..."

I myself am indebted because without people like you my Vicki would be stark Naked. Beautiful work and I pray you will continue???

Wusamah, you are so handsome and beautiful...and if you want me to continue it will be $4.99 a minute (joking, its $2.99) First, I want to say thank you very much. I absolutely love all your items. I also want to say thank you for making them free. I want to reply to your comments. 1. I too had to find a new host due to bandwidth over-use. I have come to expect that with poser downloads. 2. The .EXE file did give me some pause. Rightfully so people are kind of paranoid of downloading an .EXE file. Perhaps a text file saying what the .EXE was probably would have helped. 3. That virus that only infect IE with Visual Basic Scripting activated. VBS lets in most of the viruses in. It was from the Tripod site. Shame on them. 4. The cookies problem one person was complaining about was their browser screwing up. It is their problem, not yours. 5. I am really sad to hear that you are not going to make any more free items. I will just have to cherish the ones that I already have. And, when dealing with difficult people, I remember the line "... you can please some of the people some of the time." 6. I like your flash pages. I also recently got high speed internet so they come down fast. I can understand the people with 56k being a little upset. But, Patience is a virtue. I remember 56k downloads. 7. Britany Spears is hot no doubt. well thats my two cents and a whole dollar.

Ditto on the praise. Your stuff is incredible. After reading through that thread, I can understand how you probably feel pretty beat. I was gonna make a statement about one particular person who posted to that thread, but I'm not. That would make this message about them and it's really about you. I for one love the stuff you make. And being somebody in the real world who pays for bandwidth, I understand the trouble with hosts and am more than willing to be patient and wait for what your talent has made. I also saw a lot of people posting praise in that thread and you certainly can add me to that list.

I almost wrote a reply to that original thread when I saw how many people were complaining about having trouble getting something for FREE. I got a small dose of that when Questor was having some trouble with his server that was hosting my Vickybuster texture. People wrote to me angrily asking why the download links didn't work, and some wanted to send it to them directly. I'm sorry to hear about all of this, and I understand your feelings. People ought to just be thankful that they're getting something for free before mouthing off. Take care (and thank you for the nice comments you've given me as well, I appreciate them very much). You and anyone else that provides free items for the communities are a treasure and should be treated as such. So, I am sorry that the few once again has messed up something good for the many...but do what you have to do. We'll all still love you anyway, no matter what you decide, simply because you cared to give away rather then sell at one point in time :) I'm sorry you were given a hassle. Looks like another 'lovefest' brewing? I guess there are 2 'camps' regarding how one might receive a gift that is 'less than perfect'. 2 schools of thought on the proper response one should give when faced with someone who gives a gift.. but doesn't fulfill some narrow minded, preconceived expectations of the 'requirements' that an arbitrary receiver of the gift might demand. Wusamah, I think that you should institute a 'double your money back' policy for anyone who's not happy with your free offerings, or anyone who presumes to tell you that you shouldn't use Flash, because they don't happen to like it, you handsome, beautiful person, you.

You know something, I think some people would be lost without the ability to give away their free stuff then go strutting around, and complaining about whiners. that says you agree that there ARE whiners in the first place. that's what most freestuff givers are stumped about! have you thought about it in a real life scenario? you bake a cake, you take it to work, leave it in the kitchen with a note saying "please enjoy the cake, no need to pay, it's on me!" two people pass by your desk and one of them is saying to the other, "i can't believe that person who left the cake didn't bother to bring a knife, plates and spoons!" shock! THEN and ONLY THEN does the cake baker get all uppity about his cake. he says "well, at least i even made the cake. sniff sniff next time i won't bother" and THEN the two people pass by again saying, "guess what, that snobby cake baker has threatened not to bring more cake! what a bloody show off. he just made that cake so he can strut about and threaten us with no more cake!" shakes head i have NOT seen any freestuff giver get all snobby BEFORE they were abused. if you have witnessed this, who the heck is it??? are you sure you aren't painting everyone with the same brush from one encounter with a specific individual? many threads now i've seen a few people complain about the freestuff givers complaining about user's complaints! they seem to have an axe to grind there and can't let it go. we've tried to figure out technical solutions for it (classifying freebies better) but they would rather continue to grind. unfortunately, they are grinding away at real people, not an unfeeling whetstone.

You know, just a small second thought..... I used to be involved with this guy whose family had a particularly bizarre set of traditions around Christmas. Instead of getting, say, his mother a robe, he'd buy three of them, wrap one, let her open it, then show her options 2 and 3. She'd pick one, and he'd return the other two to the store. Now I admit, I can see a certain practicality in that. But when I bought him a DVD player and a set of carving knives, both brands that he had very specifically asked for, only to see them both returned "because I can get you a better deal on these someplace else", I figured, screw it, what's the use? It wasn't a gift anymore, it was... well, a non-gift at that point, I guess. Bottom line? It's a gift, people. If it's not the right size or the right colour or the right this or the right that, no one says you have to download it. If it's not available because of bandwidth, send the donor an e-mail and ask real pretty if he/she will send it to you. Sometimes they will, just cause you asked so nice. If it doesn't work the way you think it should, send them an e-mail and explain what the problem is. Maybe it's something they hadn't figured on when they built it. If there's something seriously wrong with it, send them an e-mail and tell them. And by the same token, if it's something really nice, send them an e-mail and tell them. It takes all of ten seconds to do. And I don't think any of us are under such tight schedules that we can't write a short note.

Nobody asking to jump thru hoops....nobody expecting any Thank You....nobody doing anything but getting pissed about being berated because thier gift didn't suit the standards of some spoiled children.
So...who? I'm genuinely curious to see a list of these free stuff contributors who demand all these things you imply.

I recently downloaded several fairly large files that turned out to be corrupted zips, but I didn't tear into the creator with angry e-mails or threatening IMs. Just because we may have the right or even the reason to complain doesn't mean we always should. I'll say it again, we should be thankful that these items are free AT ALL. SnowS

Dear generous, handsome, beautiful, wise, outstanding, full of knowledge, prince of donators wusamah, and whatever you like to be, big thanks for your freebies - this is really quality stuff, and in comparison to some store releases it's even more professional!(I admit, I wouldn't be able to do anything like that) I've got some experience with online publishing and I may assure you, whatever you try to get perfect, there's always an idiot who won't realize it. So please ignore the ignorants (those who cannot handle a simple cookie) and enjoy the praise of the silent majority.

Hi nikita, not enough chears for your homepage? OK, its'one of the best in the community. Should I really list up all neurotic kids that are playing around here? Nope. Wusamah donated his work to the community, and as far as I can evaluate it, it's really great stuff. Even if he has intended some merchandising for his site, it's a fair deal, because it's free. And if you are annoyed by pop up's and java scripts, simply click it away or disable it. This is Internet, not your local drive. Now ronk, I've read it! Doesn't mean that I wan't to flame. But sometimes it's really a good idea to get a little more into details before post a complaint. If you have to post a download with high bandwidth you often have to accept some compromises. This means that the free hosting is bundled with advertising, pop up's or advertising. We all have to pay our bills. This is the end my friend

Backup first, then repair/quarantine for both macros and non macro viruses. And now the meat :) Cookies are a fact of life, no cookies, no Hotmail, (amongst other things.) I have a shortcut to my "temporary internet items" on my desktop, I empty it manually every evening, including cookies. At no point, during yesterday or today, having visited both the uzilite "pointer" page and the tripod download page, did I get any popups. My browser is setup as defined above, I'm going directly through the firewall instead of through the web-cache like I'm supposed to. I have no other blocking software, and the firewall doesn't scan incoming traffic, that's handled at the desktop level by Norton. Both IE 6.0, and the consumer (3 month trial) version of Norton, that makes use of the same virus defs I use, are available for public download both from their respective companies, and from download.com. (The OEM version of Norton came preinstalled on my laptop direct from the factory.) This is pretty much a base spec, for "safe" computing in this day and age. Netscape only yesterday advised users to upgrade to the latest point release of thier software that fixes a significant security flaw. You are responsible for your own security, if you don't, can't or won't accept cookies, face the facts that a good 60-70% of the "public" internet is closed to you. Including all search engines, portal sites, and commercial web sites, that rely on cookies to track site usage and monitor returning visitors/customers for ad traffic, etc. You take your life in your hands when you venture off your own private subnet/computer, just as you do when you walk out of your own door. You computer literacy and/or lack of same is your responsibility, not that of the computer manufacturer, OS provider, site designer, or elected official. Just as it your responsibility to be aware of your surroundings outside of your door. It is not the job of the police to escort you to your car, and then drive you in convoy to your selected destination. If you are unable or unsure of how to configure your computer consult a professional, just as you would get a police/private appraisal of the state of your home secuurity. From a legal standpoint, accessing a web site, means the implicit acceptance of their online business practices, since accessing their site is an entirely volutary act on your part, including by accident and/or ommission. Such is the nature of the "connected" internet. Sites are neither required to have, or bound by any "privacy policy" they may have. Just as they are not required to maintain adequate security, except where mandated by goverment legislation. Such as the SEC mandated security statement for all publicly quoted companies that maintain a computer system. Outside of these requirements, security and privacy function as a result of the free market economy. Basically, if somebody puts a stack of hats on a pole and surrounds that with barbed wire and sharks, then places a sign in front saying "free hat", you download the hat at your own risk... later jb

Hi ronk ! sorry, but your online connection is not as simple as your telephone! You have to adjust the security options of your browser to be sure that your configuration remains unmanipulated. I've have tested the link and nothing 'criminal' happened. May be that you need a little more practice with your browser settings. Please have a look on JB's remarks. He's quite rhight: Nobody cares about you when you are entering a unknown homesite. Internet has never been a 'safe' place. It has been anachistic from the mere beginning and you have to be aware that some hosting sites will try to manipulate your system. That's commom use, especially when free webspace is offered.

Then a few lines further and back to normal. Some things never change. But where is XXXXXX? I also went to the link. No popups or problems. Even downloaded New EVE3 while there. Hi, I can see what he means, if you click to download the character pictured it fails to find the file, and then it defaults... If you have javascipt (active scripting in IE) turned on, then it launches 3 windows, spawns one *almost* full size across the desktop, (with the address bar turned off) and then asks you if you want to change your homepage. All of which I'm asuming is part of the default setup of thier host. It's exactly the same sort of thing that porn sites do. Annoying, but preventable. Just throw the word "blocker" into the search bar on the attached link. One of the results is called "popup dummy" later jbrwilliams posted Fri, 15 February 2002 at 8:11 PM
I went back again. Last time I didn't even think to click on the pictures. I clicked on the links below the pictures and everything downloaded just fine. I tried to click a picture and the file wasn't found, but I didn't get the 3 windows. I am using IE 6.0 and scripting is on. I do use POPUP KILLER, but it doesn't indicate it is stopping them. Pretty strange.

I know that some sites require "Java Console" enabled. And i know some folks will say that this can be a "Security" NoNo! Never had a virus since we've been on the Net... And using the Netcape Email since day one has avoided getting the .vbs ones! We also do a "Cookie" Cleanup on a regular basis! Really wish i could give you a Magic formula... It's all trial & error! *My experience is this.
1.) I don't follow all the drama of all the freebies.*
So then you have no evidence? You just have this belief of freestuff giving abusers in your mind that has come to be real for you because you have repeated it often enough?
2.) I don't keep track of names.
So then you have no evidence? You just have this belief of freestuff giving abusers in your mind that has come to be real for you because you have repeated it often enough?
3.) Every day, at least once a day, or twice or more, someone comes off saying how ungrateful and abusive the receivers of their GIFTS are.
WHERE has this happened BEFORE that freestuff giver was abused? Give an example of someone being that way BEFORE they were abused? All the complaints we have thus far seen are freestuff givers who are only DEFENDING themselves and voicing hurt feelings AFTER they were abused by people taking their freestuff items.
*4.) I read stuff like
"Well if they don't want to look at Flash animations, tough! It's Free!"
"If they don't want to look at nudes, then they don't need to get my freebies."*
This is a fact. When you take something offered, you get the whole parcel as is. You cannot dictate HOW it is offered. "This is me, this is my item which I wish to share with you." What do you find wrong with that???
*"I don't respect anyone who objects to nudes."
"You can kiss my ass."*
If you can not give evidence of this attitude, those are words from YOUR OWN MIND. If that is in fact what you READ when people upload their free items, then IT IS YOUR PROBLEM.
*Someone bakes a cake, and then leaves it on a table at work.
She hangs around waiting for people to run over, cut the cake, and gush loudly over her generosity.*
Again, that is something YOU are reading into it. It is not proof against others here, it is proof of how YOU YOURSELF think.
*People sit down, eat the cake, and maybe no one even asks who made the cake.
The baker feels slighted and offended because no one thanked her.*
Again, that is something YOU are reading into it. It is not proof against others here, it is proof of how YOU YOURSELF think.
*Or if they know who baked the cake, they say "thanks," and she is offended because they didn't say anything more. Maybe she needed to hear that she's a first class baker.
Maybe the baker expected that people would do some ritual before they started eating the cake. Maybe they were supposed to ask permission first. Maybe she wanted them to read a poem she wrote. Who knows?
She gets offended because they merely sat down to eat the cake, and mumbled thank you between bites.
The baker is offended, and will never share another cake again.*
Again, that is something YOU are reading into it. It is not proof against others here, it is proof of how YOU YOURSELF think.
*That is the attitude that I often see from SOME free stuff contributors
Again, I have said all along that people who receive free stuff should not abuse the givers.*
You have given NO PROOF of this abuse.
Reply to that and stop evading the FACTS. Give FACTS, not opinion, and you will regain credibility.
I am talking about the attitude I see in this thread.
As we SAID, this "attitude" came to be AFTER these freestuff givers were abused. These people were good and happy before someone came along and said they were very bad for trying to share their free stuff in their bandwidth limited way. shock horror gasp
*And here is the link to the freebie item which threatens to take over my computer.
Jemma has the site. It's named DRAGONAYERIE
It doesn't matter if it didn't happen to you.
The invasive maneuvers still exist.
Those kind of popups are not the practice of a reputable web site host.
Those are the kind of popups used by warez people and crooks.*
This does NOT give an example of someone ABUSING users. Again, it is someone hampered by hosting limitations. She didn't come at you and abuse you. You didn't experience those popups until after you decided to take her freestuff offerings. And your assumption that she is among "warez people and crooks" is the height of pressumption.
Someone is offering their freestuff and you accuse them of being a warez kid and a crook! I am gobsmacked!
And yet, there is still no evidence of abuse by freestuff givers BEFORE they were themselves abused.
I didn't really care to get back to this. I know for a fact it would take a huge deal of time and effort to get your to rethink about stuff you have set in your mind. I remember how you came in the first time dictating how people should behave in the forums, which transferred to a thread in c&d where a big number of people finally got you to change your mind and you settled down and bent over backwards to show how well you could get down with them all. I did not participate in those threads but I read them.
And knowing a mind made up when I see one, I wish to leave it at this UNLESS YOU CAN GIVE PROOF.

You 'tee hee' at all calls for you to back up your wild accusations but go into detail about some isolated site that might be a problem.. but has nothing to do with the artist that you insult here. Anyone who surfs with IE deserves to catch something nasty - that thing has more backdoors than Grand Central station. I'm beggining to think that the freestuff makers should stage a strike - I too got razzed while my freestuff was up. My fave negative comment complained that my character Shaun was poorly made and said that they wouldn't download anymore of my stuff. ??? and I care why? I also got grief about the naming of some of my Shades of Mike textures (apparantly the name Yakuza offended someone - what would you call an asian male texture with a huge red dragon tattoo?) I'm expecting to get grumbles when I release my first for sale character - and more b*tching when I start releasing 24 pairs of Adventurers outfits textures that I had originally started for freestuff. I'm not making any more freestuff until I've made back the $1000 bill for bandwith from jan. And people can just cope. If the major public see that your opinions are wrong accept it. In your last post you wrote "you've proven that you don't care to have an open discussion", yet you deleted your messages? what kind of a hypocrite is that?
ronknights posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 6:22 PM
My opinions are not wrong. Let me try to illustrate in plain English, and keep this short. 1.) I create Free Stuff. I give of my time and energy for free. 2.) I ask nothing in return, nor do I expect people to pay a price, jump through hoops, etc. 3.) I've publicly stated my gratitude to people who provide Free Stuff. 4.) I've objected to people who practice abuse. That goes for givers and receivers. It is a TWO way street folks. 5.) I've objected to the bad attitude of my Free Stuff providers. I've quoted relevant pieces to illustrate my point. 6.) I've objected when people ask for evidence of my claims when they have failed to provide a shred of evidence in their own behalf. 7.) I might add that some people object to name calling. I have tried harder to avoid anything that people can call name calling. However, this quote is surely a violation: "what kind of a hypocrite is that?" 8.) I stand behind what I've said, and will continue to do so. 9.) I can recognize when people have no desire to have a two-way dialogue, but would rather whine, groan, bolster each other's egos. I can choose to walk away from that stuff. 10.) Many others have voiced opinions similar to and supporting my own. I also know many people don't bother because of the mob mentality they encounter. You don't scare me. You don't have what it takes. So back off. Ron
