and it reminded me of his piece I did a while back. I made the ring and bump map from scratch. I'm not too happy with the inscription (I used a font I downloaded somewhere) and I'll probably change it. This was a little something for Valentines Day.

Maybe he likes his women bound and held in darkness? ::bletch:: Sauron's hand never touched the 3 Elven Rings nor the Ring of Barahir (which had 2 emeralds from Valinor in it). It didn't touch the incredible necklace that the dwarves made Finrod Felagund (he that gave his ring to Barahir as a token of friendship and promised aid) and to which Thingol in his pride caused one Silmaril to be encompassed... which led to the dwarves and elves slaughtering each other, etc., but it was a handsome necklace and made the wearer even more beautiful. There is also the sceptre of Annuminas and much other ancient and wondrous jewelry which doesn't bear the taint of evil or evil intent. Admittedly, the One Ring is a powerful and distinctive ring, but I'd join with Faramir in refusing to pick it up, even if it was found lying by the side of the road. Carolly the Humble

FYI the font is called 'tengwar cursive' & is available on a host of free font archives as well as several Tolkien fan pages.

There's also a font called Gandalf Tengwar, I believe. It is also elven script. And this reminds me, a friend of mine proposed to her girlfriend with a ring with the One Ring's inscription.

No, Barahir's Ring was given to Aragorn by Elrond when he reached manhood. Elrond fostered all the northern king's sons, and kept certain of the royal insignia against the day when they would be needed again: "and there were kept also the heirlooms of their house: the ring of Barahir, the shards of Narsil, the star of Elendil, and the sceptre of Annuminas." (Appendix A, p1080) Besides, Barahir died in a land battle... orcs, IIRC... and his son Beren reclaimed the hand with the ring that the orc chieftain had taken as a trophy. That's in the Silmarillion. As Cooler says, there are various "elven" and "dwarven" fonts available on the free font sites. I've foung 4-5 but haven't played with them yet. Hmmm... maybe those of us who are meek and humble and unconcerned with domination wouldn't want to actually wear the One Ring... but I can think of a couple of people whom I wouldn't mind seeing in Gollum's cave all dank and naked and miserable. ::not a very nice smile:: Carolly
