Once in a while I see an image I'd like to save by right clicking on it. When I do so, normaly the name of the image automaticaly pops into the "save as" field and "jpg" shows up in the "type" box. But now when I right click, I get "untitled" in the save as box and "bmp" in the type box and I have no other options to save as unless I manually type in the full name. Before it was automatic. Strangly, this does not happen all the time, but most of the time. I am running windows xp pro and Internet explorer 6. This strange problem just started occuring about a week ago, it was working properly for months. If you have any insight for me, or can help me, I'd appreciate it very much. Davo

Sometimes I have this error also. I reload the page/image and everything is OK. I think that is a bug in IE, it gives you the bitmap it displays on the monitor instead the JPG if has downloaded. Look at your saved image, it is probably a big bitmap file instead of a small JPG file.

This seems to happen especially when the original image is in a newer JPEG format, the 'progressive JPEG' or p-jpeg. Your only real option is to save it as .BMP and convert it in some offline graphics program.

I've had the same problem since upgrading to IE 6... I just save it as a .bmp then open it and resave it as a .jpg with photoshop... it's a pain with the extra setps, but it was the only thing I could think of at the time to do.

I've been running IE6 since I got my computer, it ran perfect for a month or so, then it started having that problem. What I've been doing is in the save as field, I put an astericks ( * ) and hit enter, then I can see other jpg files that are already there, just click on one of the existing jpg files and put a new name before the .jpg extension, then it will save as a jpg without having to open up in a paint program to re-save. I sure hope that there is a simple fix for this problem. Davo

I find if I go file->new window and then right click and save from the new window, that usually fixes it.

Mine was doing that too...I just went back to Netscape and I don't have the problem anymore....:)

Netscape may solve this problem but cause others in the future. In I.E., all you have to do is select "Save target as..." from the quick menu (the menu that pops up after you right-click). If you select Save Target As, you'll get the correct filename and extension.

Why would using Netscape cause "other problems" in the future? The new version of NS uses the same standard Microsoft is finally adopting. It is a bug in IE (happens in IE5 and 5.5 too). In addition to what's been mentioned, you can often fix it by holding shift while you click refresh.

had the same problem today twice - but this happens only at a special site. maybe there is a problem with image format or with dynamically created website ?? i use ie 5.00 sp2
