Well it is now just a little after 12:00 PM Utah time and there are 6 of us still here at DAZ working on the mystery model. I was surprised to see how fast people picked up on the Ms. Trie poster showing the image of Stephanie and linking it back to the Mystery model.
At this point and time I still can neither deny nor confirm that Stephanie is the Mystery model. What I can say is that if Stephanie were the Mystery model, she would be a model that was created as a morph target from Michael. Not that I am admitting anything, but if this were the case then we would also use a different hip group so that we could remove any unwanted Male geometry. Now, again supposing that we were to embark on such an ambitious project, then this so called Mystery model would absolutely have to fit Victory clothing but at the same time would need to have some additional body morphs to give her a different nude body than Victoria.
One might ask, Why would DAZ do something like this? We already have Victoria, why would we need another woman model? Why not spend our valuable time modeling something else like more clothing items for Michael? To that I would say, while not admitting anything, that DAZ is trying to expand the Michael market by giving people more reasons to get him. Therefore the more people who have Michael the more incentive there is for developers (like DAZ and others) to develop for him. Therefore in the long run there will be more products available for Michael at great places like Renderosity, 3D Commune, DAZ3D etc. If you are not buying any of this then I would have to mention one more thing: the fun factor. We enjoy doing challenging and innovative things.
Now that I have told you absolutely nothing, there is something that I can tell you. We hope we are getting really close now. This project has ballooned out much more than we ever imagined. We will have some new images for the Mystery model available within the next few days. We will most likely render some of them using Pro-Pack and Lightwave so that we can have facial images without the glowing nostrils and some other rendering actifacts commonly seen in Poser renders.
Sincerely,
Dan Farr
President DAZ Productions

Kewl! But I hope you don't mind if I still hope it's some sort of extra-millennial superfish. I think thre's a genuine lack of fish in the Poser world, and I'm really hoping that with the mystery model, DAZ is hoping to break new ground. Something normal, with no faerie or barbarian morphs would be cool, and it would be extra special if it were incapable of holding a sword. :)

a couple questions... 1. will she take a Vicky texture or will we need to be buying new textures? 2. will she come with the full amount of morphs found in Vicky 2 & Mike 2 or will she start with limited morphs allowing you to have a Stephy 2 in a few months? NW316

Therefore the more people who have Michael the more incentive there is for developers (like DAZ and others) to develop for him. If we were going to see development for Michael we'd have already seen it. Perhaps the only way to increase the Mike products is to offer brokered artists financial incentives.

To that I would say, while not admitting anything, that DAZ is trying to expand the Michael market by giving people more reasons to get him And to do that, you create this new female character. Well, I suppose it's increasing Mike's options by giving him a larger pool of dates. If you are not buying any of this then I would have to mention one more thing: the fun factor. The "fun factor" comes only when the price is right and the product worth the time. Sorry, but this incessant "tease factor" is getting tiresome. I know you want to tantalize people, but this is now approaching the state of being ridiculous. I think we've all figured out the "mystery model"'s identity on this episode of To Tell The Truth, so how about some straightforward facts?

Mike morphs into wolf... Millennium Kangaroo! Hmm... where's Tank Girl? But if it is Stephanie... i vote we rename her Tootsie. Y'all remember that movie? Hello Dan and DAZ, First of all, I want to say that I am looking forward to Stephanie if she is the Mystery Model. Thanks! One of my hopes with Stephanie is that she will include the "character" Full Head Morphs of Mike. By "character" morphs, I mean the morphs like HeadTroll and HeadBigFoot. The reason I ask this is that sometimes I make a creature from these Mike morphs and am unable to make a corresponding female creature because Vicky does not have these morphs. Well, I hope you're listening. :) Jay
Crescent posted Wed, 06 March 2002 at 4:16 PM
Hmmm ... good point, jaybutton. The Orc model that came out is great, but there's no female equivalent. If Steph uses Mike's maps and Mike's morphs, I've got an Orc village! If we can combine this with Codetwister's The Tailor, I can finally use some of Mike's clothing and make real female versions, especially armor. (A lot of Vicki clothing and armor is the band-aid variety.) Oooh! This really opens up possibilities!

You guys are so talented that it's almost silly. The stuff you create is among the best available.
Having said that--and I, too, feel like I'm looking a wonderfully generous gift horse in the mouth--I can't help but feel let down that the Mystery Model is yet another female character. Zzzzzzzzzz.
I really hoped that you were preparing some terrific, much-needed accessories for Mike 2, as only you guys can do. Instead, you seem to be passing most of that speculative creation on to third parties.
The more people who have Michael the more incentive there is for developers...at great places like Renderosity, 3D Commune, DAZ3D etc.<<
Do we really need more lingerie, breast morphs and eyelash trans maps?
Sorry, Dan. Guess I'm in the minority on this one. I know I shouldn't balk when you've all worked so long and hard on this obviously quality figure. Especially when your generosity is so evident. But...:o(
Goldfire posted Wed, 06 March 2002 at 10:29 PM
Oh, thrill. The Mystery model is ANOTHER female figure, for which we'll have to buy more textures, more clothes, more poses, more faces, more....you get the point. While poor Micheal and the Dork get ignored. The limited selection of clothes, textures, characters and decent hair for the male poser figures is getting seriously annoying, and I fail to see how creating another FEMALE is supposed to address that problem. And wasn't Micheal derived from Victoria anyway? What is the point of a 'female' morph target for Micheal who was derived from a female mesh to begin with? To quote "One might ask, Why would DAZ do something like this? We already have Victoria, why would we need another woman model? Why not spend our valuable time modeling something else like more clothing items for Michael? To that I would say, while not admitting anything, that DAZ is trying to expand the Michael market by giving people more reasons to get him. Therefore the more people who have Michael the more incentive there is for developers (like DAZ and others) to develop for him." It's not going to encourage stuff for Micheal. It will encourage more girl stuff for "stephanie." I agree with VitualSite. The incessant tease from DAZ has gotten tedious, and if after all this the "Mystery Model" is yet another female figure ...I am very, very disappointed in DAZ, and will take any future 'promotions' from DAZ with a huge grain of salt.
Mehndi posted Wed, 06 March 2002 at 10:35 PM
I have two males soon to be released for Michael, with all new hair, props, maps, a completely different face look, etc. Take heart, there is still Michael development afoot folks, and plenty of it in the right quarters! As to Stephanie, I am just so happy to see this character come along at long last. She is so much easier to work with than Vicki. There were things that could have been done better with Vicki, and WERE done better in Michael. Stephie inherits the good work in Michael as her heritage, and that is much needed for developers to get things to you faster, whether they be male or female :)

Goldfire posted Wed, 06 March 2002 at 11:25 PM
Looking forward to that, Mehndi. You do good stuff. Sorry if I came on a little strong, but I am very, very tired of seeing tons of stuff for victoria and posette...and don't forget Dina, Eve, the New York woman.....all of whom need their own poses, clothes, textures, etc. I bought Micheal because there seemed to be more stuff for him than for the poor Dork, but there is still some glaring lacks in that department.. I don't see how putting out a female morph target for Micheal will improve that situation. Might make it easier to do a self-portrait mesh of me in real life, I suppose - I have very broad shoulders and a deep voice (for a woman) and have been mistaken for a guy from behind.

Further browsing on the Daz site seems to reveal that defintely Stephanie is the mystery model. Cool. I didnt expect a human figure at all. As for the comment made above: "The "fun factor" comes only when the price is right and the product worth the time." Well, it's gonna be free for me, as I am sure it will be for many of us.
