I got my Poser 3.0 from the computer arts magazine. In it is a special upgrade offer for 99 or $129 depend on the nation in which we dwell. As long we dwell in US or UK we pay only low taxes for shipping and handling. (the UK people have to pay their VAT.) But if we are dwelling outside of the US or UK the shipping and handling cost will get near the value of the poser upgrade: $72.84! Incredible! If I calculate this together: $201.84, this comes in the price areas of a full (!) version (It costs $219)! If I buy the update at a local shop (but there seems none who is selling Poser 4 in my nation) then I'll have to pay about $189 for the update (that is about the double amount from that US people have to pay for the same thing). :( The problem is not Curiouslabs but the local market that is keeping the prices high and Curiouslabs have to use local shop prices. :( Seravajan

Yup, I know this feeling. :P It's the same for everything: Bryce, Rhino, ...

Hi Can't you get someone in us/uk to get upgrade and post it on?

Seravajan posted Thu, 07 March 2002 at 6:57 AM

This is because Curiouslabs is using UPS International Express delivering service for non US/UK people. I checked this on the UPS and it is true. UPS sux completely. The last time I ordered something in the US with about the same size was costing $12 using the basic US mail and it reached me 5 days later. I hope Curiouslabs will answer me soon. because the upgrade is not available in the swiss. I can only buy the full version here. :( Seravajan

I would suggest you get a friend in either the US or the UK to order it for you and send it via book rate or soemthing. I was not aware that the US was now given upgrade rights. These magazines used to offer the upgrades to the UK only. This is interesting. Either CuriousLabs got too many complaints, or they finally figured out that they were losing sales by not offering it to the US. Maybe they'll extend this offer to other countries in the future. The most interesting thing was that US people get the upgrade cheaper than the UK people! And you can buy the upgrade regulary at their shop. I believe that there was a similar special offer in the US too because it is a special cd upgrade offer and not a special computer arts offer. Yours Seravajan

I ordered Poser from curiouslabs and paid 70 $ extra for shipping. Indeed it came with UPS in 4 days, but it arrived fridayafternoon. It was send to the customs, who did not work over the weekend. After the weekend I had to pay another 50 $ for storage at the customs. :-)) Nice no?

LOL! I heard some similar cases about UPS too. That company sux completely. You say UPS needed 4 days for delivering it? LOL! The good old US-mail service took 5 days to send me a package from US to Switzerland! And it costed only 1/6th of the costs of UPS. It seems that I have to take the train to germany for getting a Poser 4 upgrade because it seems that it is not available at all in Switzerland. But the train is still much cheaper than that insane s&h cost. Yours Seravajan

Just as bad here in Australia, US magazine cover prices are converted to AUS dollars then doubled. Software is not so bad, but recently I enquired about the Poser4 book and was quoted AU$150 + or about 3 times the American price on the web. No copies were available here so I will be ordering from USA eventually. Tommy.

Now I'm still waiting for an answer from curiouslabs if there is really no other way as to send the package with UPS. BTW UPS have a very bad reputation in europe because they don't call the recipient before delivering the package then they will store the package for few days with a much increased cost for the recipient. They don't call before delivery here in the US either, but we don't get charged for storage. That's a rip-off. Not like they aren't making tons of money already. They've been in business almost 100 years. I can understand why you're upset. I would be, too. Melanie

I got now more informations about to get Poser 4. It is only available in germany and if I order it there I'll have to pay more than $100 more for it than in US. (And then add s&h.) :( That sux! Seravajan

The last step in this sad history: There is only 1 company selling this program (because they are importing it from germany) and only full versions. Seravajan

Have you tried some online shops?
Softline has the Poser update for 159 EUR and 9,48 EUR shipping.
But you may have to ask them if your magazine version can be updated or if you need a special version fom the UK. I had this problem some time ago with Poser 3 from 3D World magazine.

Yup. I tested this but after my calculation. I'll get again up to CHF 300 if I add toll and S&H again from the toll center. But I'll try if I can find an US online shop offering it to me for $129 or less. Seravajan
