Subject: Who would have liked something different for the Mystery Model

Blackhearted ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 11:51 AM

yes cherokee, i realise that but you see, theres this annoying little thing about humans, they tend to have opinions and independant thoughts, and they also have the tendency to express them at will. i had no idea that forum threads had such strict guidelines, i was under the impression that everything was open to discussion. but, FYI, i DID say what i would rather have: "what id like to see is a totally new millennium model, one that adheres to daz's high quality standards and high amount of support/accessories... but one with a different look than vicky, a different face, and different body proportions."

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 11:52 AM

Well, I answered that I would have preferred a clothing package for Mike.

Yewston ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 11:59 AM

I would have preferred seeing something for Michael (character, clothing, hair, etc.) rather than another female model. Free is free, though. It's not a big download, but I certainly wouldn't have bought it.

I am curious about this theory put forward by DAZ and a few people in this thread that the release of Stephanie will spur some kind of renaissance in development of things for Michael. I don't see the connection.

MadYuri ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 12:00 PM

@cherokee69 I think this thread is on track, I don't want anything else but Stephanie. ;)

kayjay97 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 12:06 PM

Yep, I answered that too.."cherokee, I too was really hoping there was something new for Mike." Not real sure what I wanted anymore, LOL

Firstly I'm not a guy and secondly I only asked because of comments like "I have no problems with Stephanie, and free is free after all" in previous messages.

while were on the topic, i have a question, mainly for the women here to ponder. ive always been mainly a pin-up artist. i juist did a pic with mike and vicky the other day, and i must say that i was quite suprised when this occurred to me. doesnt it bother you that while vicky has dozens of morphs for her breasts, hips, ass, etc and even a pubic detail morph - and comes standard (although i dont like her default breast shape) with a VERY well endowed chest - while mike comes standard with this tiny flaccid, low-res penis with ZERO morphs? lmao, id say you females got gipped :) snicker

kayjay97 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 12:20 PM

LOL Blackhearted!!! I don't feel gipped really cause I don't do nudes but it would be nice when doing a male pin up if the morph was there in the clothes area to make it look like there was something there.

cherokee69 wrote: "As you all can see, this message thread has gotten off track as all other message here at Rosity do....I asked a simple question about what you would have like instead of the current Mystery Model..not do you like Steph or not." You're deluding yourself. Read the title you gave this thread, and read your initial post. You didn't ask what anyone might want instead of Stephanie, you asked who would have liked something different - that's a very general question. Your post was presented in a leading way which was bound to create some controversy. Moaning about the inevitable result (controversy) is as bizarre as moaning about something you don't have to buy and you don't even have to download. I was quite content with my purchase of Mike2, and the fact that I subsequently get another character for no money (that's when it's free) is a great bonus. Sure, I'd have loved it if DAZ's free gift had been to clear my mortgage - I certainly would have preferred that to Stephanie; but since I'm in the real World, I regard Stephanie as pretty neat (and thankyou very much). The only 'dead horse' here is the pointless whining, but I sense it'll receive a lot more of a flogging before the day is out.

Sue88 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 1:13 PM

Well, when I first found out that the Mystery Model was going to be Stephanie, I wasn't exactly thrilled. I would have preferred something for Mike, like hair or clothes. There's the answer to the original question . ;) I also don't really understand how it would help expand the Mike market and convince people to make more things for him. Like what? Bikinis, miniskirts, and things like that? ;) But, now that I've downloaded Steph and played with her, I have to admit that I like her! I've only played with her face so far, but I really like the eye, nose and lip morphs. They seem more natural than Vicky's. So now I AM quite happy with her. :)

Sorry for straying off-topic. I didn't rather I have something else because I had no attachment to whatever DAZ was going to give us because it was a thank you gift and I know how much work and time went into the making of this....so I will just be grateful and play with my new gift. Thank you, DAZ.

Cherokee, though I am sure we can all appreciate your angst that you did not get to feed your fetish for another collection to add to your BDSM Village People portfolio, I do think that the vast majority of people in this world actually do use females in their art at least occasionally. Nice work in your render btw... not my style of guy at all, but each to his own preference.

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 2:51 PM

Well, personally, I feel gratitude for DAZ' decision to give us this freebie, and after checking "her" out a little more, she's pretty cool and definitely offers things that Vicki doesn't have. However, we were asked if we would have preferred something different, and I would say that something more likely to be used with Mike would have been a more likely candidate to be used as a "reward" for those purchasing the M2 character. But, all I can do is look at things the way I look at them. However what I think I see, is that now even more people will have this new Stepahanie character, hence, even more people will need to buy new textures. Nothing wrong with that though, and if that was DAZ' plan, then more power to 'em. Good marketing strategy. :)

Chailynne ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 3:28 PM

In answer to Blackhearted, yes. LOL Mike needs more morphs in that area, and also butt morphs. Mike will still be ignored as vendors start working on new stuff for Steph I'm afraid.

Cin- ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 4:32 PM

Sort of off topic, but in response to Chailynne's comment... I've actually got an idea for a character pack that will be for Michael and Stephanie. The fact that they are mapped very similarly, and can take the same morphs (with some fiddling) will make it easier to develop certain types of characters for them together instead of just making a Vicky or Michael character.

jval ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 6:24 PM

Cherokee, You did indeed ask a simple question but then immediately expanded upon it with your opinions. As such you should not be surprised that others followed your lead. For the record, when someone offers me a gift I do not presume to tell them what they may or may not give me. So I would say that yes, I am pleased with this gift. Those who are not could look at it this way. If DAZ had done nothing at all there would be no room for complaint. Status quo always makes people happy. But they did give Stephanie away so now some people are happier still. Those have gained while the others haven't lost anything at all. I'd say that's a win/win situation (grin). Don't forget that just because somebody offers you something doesn't mean you have to accept it. - Jack Valero (who thinks life has enough problems and doesn't need to look for more)

Blackhearted ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 6:33 PM

yeah i suppose your right, duh :) ive spent the entire day messing with her, and shes not that bad - the muscle morphs are nice. i just wish that vicky3 isnt just new morphs for vicky but an ENTIRELY different mesh based on a more normal body type. cheers, -gabriel

otaku ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 6:45 PM

I'm happy to get a free model and the ability to add some real muscle to vicki has been something i've wanted for a while so thank yoy Daz. I am wondering why daz has created another female model and I wish I could use exsiting textures with her. I'll probably only use her occasionally for special images. I'm happy with stephanie although something for Mike would have been more exciting. Still waiting nervously for the mike 2 clothing morph pack.

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 7:13 PM

"Still waiting nervously for the mike 2 clothing morph pack." And I suspect many of us will also be waiting. Unfortunately, it ain't gonna happen as long as well-endowed nekkid broads are all the rage...... and DAZ perceives that as being what their customers want.

Kiera ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 7:21 PM

The clothing packs are brokered the last I knew, guys. Didn't the guy who makes them post here months ago about Mike 2?

PJF ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 7:48 PM

MikeJ wrote: "Unfortunately, it ain't gonna happen as long as well-endowed nekkid broads are all the rage...... and DAZ perceives that as being what their customers want." DAZ perceives that because that's what their sales figures tell them. Making a 'nekkid broad' based on Mike2 is a way to get people to buy Mike2 - which obviously hasn't been as successful as they'd have liked. If it works, and more folks own and maybe use Mike2, then developers might be interested in making more stuff for Mike. As things stand, it's the market - us- that is leading development in the direction of 'broads' in fantasy getups. People might say they want more stuff for Mike, a cute baby or a realistic cat; but they keep on buying 'broad' stuff. Everyone who is saying they would prefer to see more stuff for Mike should consider that this may well be the only way of actually seeing any come about. If the 'mystery model' had been a clothing set for Mike, that would have been all there was. This way, there just might be several clothing sets for Mike emerging. If it doesn't happen, then it's just the market talking with its money.

I can't believe they gave us a clover when they could have given us a rose. ;) But, as far as clovers go, it's a good one. :)

Crescent ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 9:45 PM

Hey, some of us are buying all the Mike stuff we can, but there's not much out there, and some of what is available is really lacking in quality. (Clothing textures from the 70's disco comes to mind.) The poor guy still is incredibly limited in hair styles, making it even harder to justify buying stuff because the lack of hair makes him look a lot like all the other Mike renders. No clean cut business suit makes Mike even more limited. I really would have preferred either hair for Mike or a business suit, but I definitely do appreciate Steph. She has made certain images much easier to produce. Technically OT: Where did this information about a Vicki 3.0 come from?

Kiera ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 9:52 PM

From Dan Farr, who said it is in the planning stages.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 11:46 PM

Considering the lack of gratitude and courtesy, I'm glad that none of you complainers are on my Christmas list. There will be a good market for lumps of coal next year. [memo to Santa: order it now before prices rise in the fall] Yes, receiving is sometimes harder than giving, but this model is free. Many of us had upgraded to Mike2 BEFORE they announced that they would create a special gift for us. They put a lot of time and care into building a human figure, not a car, or camel, or caboose,... a HUMAN. The very least we can do is say "thank you". And mean it. Even if what you are thanking them for is the thoughtfulness or generosity or idea, there ought to be something for which you are pleased and grateful. Carolly

DgerzeeBoy ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 12:56 AM

MikeJ: You hit it on the head. What on God's green earth is the business logic behind a decision to reward Mike 2 buyers (and extend the sale for his purchase) with yet another female character, when Mike 2's 4 muscle body morphs have yet to be addressed with workable clothing and accessories?

Even the folks at DAZ had to be delighted at the unexpected, overwhelming response to Mike 2. And why not? Mike 2 is wonderful.

This community begged DAZ for a good male figure and waited forever to get one. How much more in-your-face-evidence does DAZ need that Mike 2 can pay off in a cottage industry's worth of accessory sales.

The issue is not about "it's free, so be grateful." DAZ waved this mystery in our faces for weeks. The big "model tease." It seemed inevitable that the barely 3 month old Mike 2 was about to be given the same center stage treatment afforded to Vicky with the unveiling of the "mystery." What a world class let down.

The DAZ folks could write the handbook on generosity and talent. But this decision is a dud.

I kinda like Stephanie (although her default body is horribly skinny and I agree with BlackHearted about the Vicky body etc etc!) but I just can't get the transvestite look out of hi... her! Well, maybe I should stop trying, variety is, after all, the spice of life. I think. Paula

jval ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 1:38 AM

I don't think it's any great secret that the response to Vickie has been vastly greater than that towards Mike- just look at the galleries. Then look at the paucity of Michael offerings from any source, not just DAZ. The unvarnished truth is that money doesn't talk- it screams. Now consider Stephanie. As she is based upon the Michael model there is now a good chance that many products may be interchangeable between these two. Even if not completely interchangeable it would be much easier for a producer to create something for Stephanie and then modify it to also accommodate Michael without too much additional effort. This alone could make it much more attractive for said producer to provide additional Michael products. This might be considered to be a "back door" solution to the problem of not enough Michael material. If the direct approach doesn't work, then try sneaky. DAZ could have taken the easy way out but instead they tried something new that might well succeed in eventually giving Michael lovers what they so desperately want. Will it work? I don't know but I give DAZ full points for attempting an innovative strategy. It will take time for the fruit to ripen but I don't consider this to be a marketing blunder at all. The only blunder is that they could have saved a lot of time, effort and money if they just palmed off a few Michael morphs onto us instead. - Jack Valero

Sue88 ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 8:58 AM

Well, I do appreciate receiving this new model for free and I really like her. (It WAS free since I only had to pay for Michael whom I wanted to buy anyway.) But it doesn't mean that I can't express my opinion about what I hoped the Mystery Model would be. Besides, DAZ is a business company, not a charity organization. A lot of companies give away free items when they first introduce them to the market. Giving away Stephanie with Mike helps boost DAZ's sales of Mike and Stephanie will spur more products that they'll be able to sell. Since DAZ kept the Mystery Model secret for such a long time, it's natural that people started to think and talk about what they were hoping this new item will be. Naturally, you can't please everyone - if the Mystery Model had been anything else, some people might have been happier, while others might have been disappointed. Yes, I agree that Stephanie will be much more useful for most people than, say, a car or a crocodile or whatever. But I don't think that people should be called "dishonorable" and "ungrateful" for expressing their feelings about receiving something other than what they hoped for. I think it helps to explore different sides of an issue. I, for one, have realized with the help of people posting in this thread and in other threads in this forum why Steph might really help getting more things for Michael.

melanie ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 10:32 AM

Big SIGH! I knew this would happen. Every time a new character comes out from DAZ, there is a huge outcry of complaints. Why such ingratitude? Why is everyone so surprised that it was a new figure and not clothes for Mike? Didn't anyone read AnneMarie's original e-mail that came out weeks ago? She stated very clearly in it that she thought people would really like "this new character." Yet everyone kept speculating that it was clothes or props or morphs for Mike. Hello!!! Anyway, my opinion is that I really like Stephanie. She looks NOTHING like Vicki. Take a closer look at her face. She's completely different. I like the price tag ~ FREE! So, you'll never hear me complaining that she's not worth it. Thanks for letting me vent and sorry for this little menopausal moment, but it's my age, you see. :) Melanie ~~ Going off to recover from the hot flashes. ~~ ;)

Sue88 ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 10:48 AM

You're right, Melanie, the e-mail did say that it was going to be a new character. I guess when the speculation frenzy started I forgot about that. :) Sue

otaku ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 2:04 PM

I think what people are "complaining" about is not about another new character but another model that requires new textures and clothing morphs (I know the vicki clothes fit her but I'm refering to using the muscle morphs with them) and it looks like I'll need another library of hand poses as well. I'm just unsure as to why muscle morphs and a face morph weren't added to the model I already have ,Vicki or why Steph wasn't mapped to take Vicki textures. Like I said before I'm happy to have her and I appreciate the fact I was able to get her for free. I do know though that if she were not free I would be spending my money on Mike and Vicki support items or models that are something other than another Vicki or Mike variations. Vicki and Mike are excellent models and I can create all my human needs with them what I'm really looking to spend my money on are models that are completely different ( animals, monsters, everyday objects) or accesories that help vari my Mike and Vicki characters. So thanks Daz for the freebie, you make great high quality 3d models. But please start delving into other models other than the male and female like the great millenium teeth. Barbie and GiJoe have been around for years and there have been only a few changes to the models and tons of extras to buy for them, there's something to be learned from them.
