Don't know about you guys but I'm a little ticked that I just upgraded to 6.0 not that long ago, only one update 6.01 and now they have 7.0 out and they want $149 to upgrade. Does this bother anyone? Used to be you got at least to .5 increments. Marque

Now it's just more wistles and bells. They will only do it as long as enoughe idiot keeps buying it. (OH GAWD!!! Is there a plug-in somewhere to do a drop shadow?) Another one was PageMaker that was SUPPOSED to be OSX compliant, BUT has written in fine print with Classic. Bean counters must be running Adobe lately.

from what they're putting into it that's new, it looks like it should rather be 6.5, maybe higher, but it defuinitely doesn't warrant the number 7 on it. What the hell did that .01 do anyways??? I never njoticed anything change... ry

The .01 updater was to fix some bugs with the options toolbar primarily.

This new release does have some cool things, but from what I have seen and read so far, is not a "must have" upgrade.

The image browser looks neat, but anyone who has some sort of archiving system already will most likely stick with that when they are looking for spcific images. The healing brush looks cool too, but I want to actually try it hands on before I make any statements.

All in all, at the moment I am still of the mind that this should have been along the lines of 6.5.

I said the same things about PS6 when it was released. I never upgraded my 5.5 . I'm going to be getting 7 though. I saw a demostration of the healing brush on TechTV last week. Although I doubt I'll have that much use for that particular feature it appeared to be a powerful tool. Have fun Dave

One thing I notice about photoshop is the gradual ripping off of Kai software. the liquify tool is a rip of one of Kai's Power Goo software tools, and the healing brush is a rip of Kai's Photo Soap (gotta love the names though). I haven't seen the healing brush in action, but from what I hear, it's the exact same thing I used to have with Photo Soap.

I upgraded from 4 to 5.5 at a cost of $180.00 about a month before they announced that they were coming out with 6 for an additional $180.00. I was so mad that they didn't offer any kind of break to people who had just bought it that I didn't buy 6 until about a month ago because I needed the type capabilities for some stuff I was doing. Now here comes 7 a month later. I can't win. Mike

The way i see it... PS7 is just PS6.01 + that eyecandy plug in thing. I just dloaded the 30 trail from adobe... nothing there that said to me i needed to have this software. Should have been 6.5 not 7. (They are putting out versions now like aol and MS windows. lol)

It looks like Photoshop is turning into the next Windows. That's right, it's stealing from other apps but not doing as well. Anyone who has ever used Painter can see that the new brush system is a joke compared to even older versions of Painter. But because they have the market share, Adobe can just add the bare minimum functionality to take more market share away from more deserving products. Why don't they just stick to image editing and manipulation? At least they don't charge $100 for a minor update like Micro-- wait a second, they charge even more for an upgrade! sigh I'll just go back to Painter and stop complaining about this now bloated piece of software.

They have done this for a long time. Remember how long it took them to have drag in guide lines? For years I had to draw boxes that I moves around to get things lined up and multiple undos, don't ask. I have used Photoshop since version 2.5, and every time they added something you need but no more then absolutely necessary to get you to upgrade while ignoring obvious shortcomings. The only thing is, I believe they have reached a point, now that they have guide lines, multiple undos, layers, and the ability to import Illustrator files un rasterised, that they don't have a lot more real features to add. They can improve performance and ad refinements but I dont use half of the features available now. I have a utility that lets me view my files graphically so I think I will pass on Photoshop 7. Maybe in they will come up with another killer utility but the obvious deficiencies have finally been addressed. Nohj

Using PhotoShop since the days when it was known as Aldus Image Styler, I can honestly say there have been aload of improvements over the years. That being said, PhotoShop 7 does not warrant its release as a new version. The addition of a healing brush, and image viewer makes it nothing more than an upgrade. While these tools may someday prove usefull; I for one will not fork over the cash for them. I have an image viewer. A healing brush? I don't understand the concept behind that or the reasoning for it. Adobe has a fine product, we all know that but this "new version" hasn't added much. Simply my opinion.

gorak33, I Don't Know? I do know I'll upgrade my 5.5 to 7. With the features of 6 and 7 added to 5.5, this makes it worth the upgrade at this time for me. Have fun Dave

If anything will make me go out and upgrade, it's the bigger filter preview windows! I really don't care about the image browser, and the healing brush isn't that big a deal, but being able to really SEE what effect filters are having would be a godsend.

I took 6 off my Mac in work, I sort of like 5.5 better and it does everything I need to do, plus loads faster. Photoshop has so many basic problems (like seeing the tools against a 50% gray background) that are never addressed while they try and collect money for minor upgrades. I'd guess the big thing on 7 is OS-X for Macs, but PC people sort of get shortchanged on that!

why pay for the upgrade when you can download it for free. if you have the internet there are ways. i didnt even pay. i wont name any place to get it but if your using the biggest p2p sharer you can get it, beat the system while you still can.

I withhold my judgment of Photoshop 7.0 until I use the shipping version. Actually, I just wanted to correct a mis-statement by mugsworth a few posts back: Aldus ImageStyler was NEVER Adobe Photoshop. Aldus and Adobe were competing companies. For example, Aldus FreeHand (now owned by Macromedia) competed with Adobe Illustrator. Aldus ImageStyler was a Windows 3.1 clone that tried to take the tiny Windows graphics market before Adobe could port Photoshop over from the Mac. You see, at that time, Photoshop was Mac only, and Windows blew chucks in every way possible (opps... did I use the past tense?). Anyhow, Aldus tanked against Adobe and sold ImageStyler to ULead Systems... in effect becoming ULead PhotoImpact. ULead PhotoImpact is up to version 7 and it has evolved into a very capable, sub-$100 program. Hey... before turning freelance, I had the graphics beat at PC World.

The confusion over Aldus / Adobe probably comes from Adobe's buyout of Aldus Pagemaker. And yes, I had Photostyler too, and it really was a stinker.
