That's all true, Mike, two or three objects and a good amount of time on searching new setings could make great pictures and teach you a lot. That was the purpose of the 'Paladine' picture in my galery. One character that I took as it come from zip, and a dive in material editor... For your picture, why not a little grainyness on the wall and on the floor ? On the floor, a really little reflection could be cool... Continue this kind of amusement for our enjoyment... :-)

Mike, I like it. Especially the light you used. Are this spots ? Looks more like the freestuff "global light". Anyhow, it looks great and nearly like a photo:-). The coffeepot I have modeled in Corel Dream looks much better in metal as the white original:-) I like the clean wall and also the clean (and grainless) floor. Guitta

This was just a test? Looks great. The table top is exactly right for thick glass with maybe a slight "smoked" effect? Like it. Mark

That looks awesome Mike! How did you set up the lights?
MikeJ posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 6:54 PM
Thanks all. :) The lighting is very simple: I deleted the "sun" and added a regular quadratic spot above. Then I stuck a point light with no shadows right above the spot, with a power of about 300. The only light casting a shadow was the spot, and it was just at 100% The wall in the back is just the "flat white" material with a "noise smooth" bump set at around .05, with little highlight.

Hey Mike, this definitely rocks.. Great table, great lighting... I mean, if people didn't know that this was vue, they would swear that was a real table and chairs and room... Great work...

THanks again. :) It was in "Ultra", Yves, 419 x 542 pixels. Took about 15 minutes to render at 600 mhz.

This picture looks like a photo, so only 15 minutes to render means that Vue4 is faster than previous versions, or that number of polygons is very low (it could not be seen due to the distance) ? Nice work, I will maybe try to create two types of objects in the future : very fine meshes, for short distance viewing, and normal meshes for long distance viewing and fast rendering.

Excellent photograph, Mike! Now, where's the Vue stuff? grin Great table you made, and hey, is that Kentia in the pot? Very cool appearance! :D
MikeJ posted Wed, 13 March 2002 at 2:13 PM
Thanks Varian! Kentia? No, I hate that plant, it never looks good, IMO. Those are "papyrus" plants-- 2 of 'em.
