Starting sometime tomorrow, there will be a brand new, shiny, officialised off topic forum! Come and join us! Bring your worries, bring your cares, definitely bring food. (The tavern is great, but Guido cannot cook!) This will be an excellent place for all those threads that don't quite fit in elsewhere. Got a picture of your cat? A good story about the ineptitude of mechanics? Something happen in your life, and you need to share? Use an app that no-one has has heard of, and feel left out? (Like me!) Or just want to talk? The rules and regs, well, I'll go there if I have to, but we all know the drill. Bring your commonsense- most people here carry it with them at all times, anyway. The word is fun! Besides, I want to get to know everyone I haven't meet yet! Any questions?

MikeJ posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 4:02 PM

How can it be called Off Topic, when the "topic" is to be off topic? There is no topic! I mean sure, O/T compared to the rest of the forums, except maybe the Tavern, but relative to itself, it will be very much ON topic when people post about their cats, what they saw the guy at McDonald's doing, etc., etc., etc. Ok, so the only real way to be off topic would be to ask questions about Poser and other apps we have forums for, maybe? Well, I'm glad to see it's gonna become a reality, even if I don't like the name. :P

Impudicus Rex posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 4:22 PM

No no MikeJ, You misinterpret! The topics will all be a little 'off'. As in "Off the beaten path" or "A little 'off' in the head"! So you see, the new new forum name is quite apt. :)~

Micheleh posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 4:23 PM

Well, I believe it will just be the "OT" forum, so you can make the initials out to be whatever your heart desires! ;]p Hey, that would be a great contest to get things going! Name the forum! On Topic? OverTime? OnlyTalk? OddThings? OtherThan? OnTap.....

x2000 posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 4:28 PM

By the way, congrats, Micheleh. But I still think we need hippies...;)

Legume posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 4:36 PM

I object on no particular grounds.

Bread & Circuses Forum ???

Micheleh posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 5:07 PM

"By the way, congrats, Micheleh. But I still think we need hippies...;) " I eat tofu, use essential herbs and oils, and make my own soap. Does that count? "I object on no particular grounds." Your objection has been taken on board, and will be thrown over the side as soon as we leave port. ;] "Bread & Circuses Forum ???" Only if you bring enough bread for everyone.

Legume posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 5:59 PM

Sorry, Micheleh. Hippies don't USE soap.

Micheleh posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 6:16 PM

Not even Patchouli?

x2000 posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 6:58 PM

"I eat tofu, use essential herbs and oils, and make my own soap. Does that count?" That's a pretty good start. But there are a few more questions I need to ask before I can confirm your nomination: 1. How many times have you watched the "Woodstock" movie? 2. Define the following terms: stash, narc, trip, The Man 3. Name 3 gurus. 4. What would you think if I sang out of tune? Would you stand up and walk out on me? 5. Who is the Walrus? Explain. 6. 1,2,3, what are we fighting for? 7. Do you own or have you ever owned a Volkswagen? 8. Have you ever thought the walls were melting? 9. True or false: Dylan is God. 10. Are you experienced?

MikeJ posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 7:46 PM

Can I play? 1. I think I saw it once, but I can't remember. 2. 2a-Drugs of all sorts, but distiguished by the term "stash" as being that which is yours. 2b- Someone who tells The Man about your stash. 2c- Going to Woodstock without leaving your home. Usually your "stash" plays a large role in this. 2d- Everyone who is not a hippie, preferasbly having some form of authority. 3. hmmm... don't know 4. Yes, unless you were the one with the stash. 5. The walrus is Paul. Can't explain, just know it to be so. 6. I don't know. End the Vietnam war? 7. My first car was a '74 beetle. 8. Brother, I KNOW the walls are melting. I jujst don't understand why no one else sees it. 9. Dylan is good, but not God. Clapton is God. 10. Oh yeah!

archetype posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 7:48 PM

I started to answer your questions x2000 but quickly got distracted by a MASSIVE bong. Does that make me a hippie?

Micheleh posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 8:01 PM

Nah, truthfully- I'm an Xer. 1. How many times have you watched "Sid and Nancy"? 2. Define the following terms: dope, grip, def, G, word, posse 3. Name 3 rebels 4. Was something wrong, she said? Of course there is. 5. What is the matrix? Explain. 6. I've been out before, but this time it's much safer in.... 7. Do you own or have you ever owned rollerblades? 8. Have you ever known the walls were melting? 9. True or false: God is Kobain. 10. Like, do I care? ;]

Micheleh posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 8:04 PM

Of course, 3 could have been "name 3 serial killers" and 1 "how many times have you seen Kalifornia". ;]

februus posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 8:13 PM

Hah Hah, Congratulations Micheleh-I knew you'd be a natural for a Mod! But the really funny thing is, they put possibly the most level-headed individual on the site in charge of the "Off Topic" forum. This should be great! Now, if they'd just turn the whole show over to you... Congrats, again! februus

Wish you the best with this one. Off-topic should generate some real interest.

  1. Four 2) Stash: what you keep your Columbian in. Narc: Slang for cop, but technially means "Narcotics Officer". Trip: What you take without ever leaving the farm... The Man: Any form of so called authority. 3) Sun Yung Moon, David Koresh, Timothy Leary 4) I'd lend you my ears so you could sing me a song... 5) Paul. And if I have to explain, you wouldn't get it anyhow. ;] 6) We're not fighting for anything - Hippies don't fight. 7) I owned a VW bus named Hoover - does that count? 8) The ceiling melted before the walls did. 9) False. Dylan is "The Jester". George Burns is God. 10) Good girls don't answer that question. ;] And I'm not even a hippie. I'm the outlaw type of longhair. So... did I win? What did I win? Does the prize have money in non sequential bills?

Allen9 posted Wed, 13 March 2002 at 3:51 PM

I was a "certified" hippy in the early '70s. Lived in a "commune" with a dozen other stoned-out freaks, had hair down to my waist, lived in tie-dyed anything, and went for a good 3 solid years without taking one single non-stoned breath. (Aaah, the memories - if I could only figure out where I left them.) I used to make custom bongs (bamboo with LOTS of beadwork) & sell them in head shops. Answers to #1 - 10 (all I got, ennyhoo). Hey, man, I don't DO quiz things, yaknow. Don't just sit there bogarting that joint, puff'n'pass man, puff'n'pass. Who snagged my mesc, and why are the walls purple'n'green (and breathing)? (Izzat 'nuf experience?)

x2000 posted Wed, 13 March 2002 at 4:27 PM

Crescent posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 3:33 PM

Will you lock or delete threads if they ARE relevant to some topic since this is the Off-Topic forum? How much OverTime is expected and what is the OT pay? Will you keep serving drinks here if we're tossed from The Tavern for drunkeness? How much payload can a swallow carry? What is your name? What is your quest? What is your favorite colour?

Micheleh posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 3:45 PM

  1. Nope! As HRH the OT Queen, we decide what is off topic, which is anything our subjects want to to be. ;] ;] ;] ;] ;] 2. You can do as much OT as you like. There will be a premium of one KK (Krispy Kremes, our chosen currency) for every hour. 3.Yes, sleeping here is allowed. (And encouraged, hem hem....) 4. It depends on who is being paid. 5. HRH Queen OT, of course! 6. Enlightenment through humor. 7. All of them.
