Can DarkTree Textures be considered a fractal program? If so, is there anyone else using it round here?

Can you show some examples? I've never seen that program... Andreas

I can't specifically comment on this program in particular, I can say that just because a program uses mathematical algorithms to create computer graphics, it does not mean that it is a fractal program. That's not to say that the program can't use fractal equations to render the image, it's just to that it's different. While there are specific equations associated with the science and geometry of fractals, other equations are used as well.
Modern fractal software tends to blur the lines between what's a fractal and what's not. One well noted and popular program uses formulas that users write to not only take advantage of it's fractal generating capabilities, but also it's powerful graphics manipulating capabilities. It's possible to produce a "fractal" image without using any fractal equations.
Some graphics programs, using the popularity and functionality of fractal imagery are incorporating those capabilities into their software. So I guess all that was to say unless you know the specific algorithms used, then you would know if the image was a fractal.

Where can one get this program?

A quick Google.com search shows Dark Tree here: http://www.id8mediagallery.com/DarkTreeTexture_gallery.htm and a product gallery here: http://www.id8media.com/framesets_3dprod/darktree_frame.htm

At neary $500, it's out of my league, even if it does sound spiffy for textures. I'm trying to do my textures-- in part--in Ultra Fractal. Of course, they're just for Poser which doesn't require super high resolution.
