Marvelous work on the helmet. Dare I hope you also plan a lorica segmentata?

The average legionary wore a very simple helmet - very much like the marvelous one you've built. The centurian's helmet was the one like the picture. It was the elite Praetorian Guard and certain elite units that had the plumage/crest. Paul

Early Roman, just after they ate the Etruscians for lunch. Later period used the helm pictured and added chainmaille to almost every Roman soldier.

I forgot to mention how well done this is. I've done restoration on real hemlets and armour. the only suggatio is to make the "bowl" of the helm a little deeper. The back neds to be a little longer. When I start on the japanese armour i will call on your help. What format are your working in?

First of all, Thankyou all for your nice comments (what a way to start my day) :O) I have gathered my ref pics from the following site since I have little first-hand knowledge of Roman armor. http://www.by-the-sword.com/onlcat.html snakepit: Yes eventually I will be doing lorica segmenta but it will probably be a purchasable item. Ikyoto: The helmet itself can be deepened by using the "y scale" but I will adjust the back a little longer. I work in 3D Max 2.5 and would love to help in any way I can. :O)

A good mesh of segmenta will be a worthwhile purchace. Bet it drives you nuts about ten minutes before your happy with it. I set a goal for myself to make the sode (the large flat shoulder guards) on the samurai armour fully articualted like some of the earlier era examples. Talk about painful!

If the helmet quality is anything to go by, I'll go buy the lorica. :O Did I actually write that?
