Does anybody know how to create or define Shader Domains? I love the idea, which is to create different mapping areas on a model, which can be texture mapped separately. The manual says that the model creator defines the shader domains for the object, but I can't figure out how to do this. All my models seem to have one shader domain, called '0'. Thanks in advance!

Jeff, Thats a new one on me. I will have to look into that. Im familiar with Layer Shaders. You can apply differant shaders to various regions of the model. Is that what you mean? I dont see anything in the manual for Carrara about Shader Domains. Maybe I'm overlooking it? Let me know. Clint

Clint- check out page 260/261. They talk about domains briefly, and give an example of a log object (the cut ends have a wood grain shader applied to them; the outside of the log has a bark shader). I haven't tried this yet, so I can't attest to how it works, but my understanding of shader domains is that you have to make your shader a layer list shader and assign a mapping mode to enable them. Thus if your top component is "Multi Channel," domains will not be enabled. Try making your top channel "Layer List," then add "Parametric" below that, then "Multi Channel." Theoretically, this will give you domains to choose from. Check out the manual (page 305) for more info. I've been meaning to play around with this, actually- it's a great idea. Automatically splitting objects into logical shading domains could be a huge time-saver.

Felderin, Cool thanks for letting me know. I will look into this feature. There are so many cool things about Carrara! Regards, Clint

Yep, this does sounds really cool. Problem is, how do you actually CREATE different shader domains on an object in the spline or vertex modellers? If anyone can figure it out, please let me know!
