She seems to be an advanced model, with mucho polygons and nice features like realistic eyes, etc. Obviously the makers have put many long hours into her development. I was just reading the description of her in the marketplace, and found this statement: "Dina is based on a real person. Her body and face are truly realistic, not some average designed by committee or someone's idealized version of a female." I suppose that I can understand their reasoning, but if they were going to base their model on a real person, why not choose a pretty person? I look at average-looking people all day at work. When I sit down to work with a Poser scene, I do it as an escape. My guys have big muscles. My gals are pretty. Dina is not. Sorry if this topic has been worn out already, I just wanted to add my $.02.

hehe, weve been through this a thousand times when she was released. unfortunately i was one of the ones that was criticising her the harshest. i suppose it was based on the fact that i felt that she was overhyped, and that the saled description stating that she was 'far more advanced and superior to victoria' got me going - i was a very big vicky fan. however, shes really not a bad model. i must agree that the default face is hideously ugly :) but there have been several free characters and textures released for her, as well as morphs - and she does have quite a range of potential with her default morphs. there are also some nice marketplace characters/textures that completely change her into something more desirable, for example handspan studios' katia. what she offers is a hi-res alternative model, an alternative body style to vicky/stephanie (which essentially look very similar). others have made the attempt, and at the risk of stepping on any toes i am not pleased with solondra. i paid a lot of money for her, and the support is just not there. not the merchant support - he has finally released a nice clothing pack for her, etc... but the community support just doesnt exist - and without that you have failure. she just didnt 'catch on'. but dina has caught on, theres a growing web of support and freebies for her, and once you morph her out of the default body and face style shes actually quite attractive. i still think that a re-release of dina would be a wise choice on DSI's part, perhaps adding a few morphs and changing her default appearance. but for someone who wants a hi-res model thats not vicky i would recommend you give her a try. cheers, -gabriel

In fact DSI has re-released Dina as "Vina". She now can wear Victorias clothes ans is much more attractive than her Alter Ego. Sascha

Oh, they've finally extracted the bulldog out of her? ;) Nah, seriously... Dina's mesh is wonderful if you want to create morphs for her. And I think you'll want to, if you own her... since I doubt anyone wants to look at the default Dina for long. She could be a wonderful figure to work with if there was more stuff for her available.

When poser 5 comes out with its new raytracer and true volumetric lighting many people
(especially posette loyalists)
are going to find out what a difference a hi-res mesh makes particularly when morphed
say what you want about dinas attractiveness but
she does well under a radiosity raytracerlike C4d or lightwave
without massive post work

I had the impression Dina died. I hadn't heard much about her or seen her in galleries in a long time. One problem is the apparent unwillingness to provide many freebies for Dina. So far I've found one bikini, some shoes, and some misc morphs. That's about the sum total. And people are pretty negative about the subject of Dina freebies. One of the great things about Vikcy, Mike and Stephanie is that you can get many freebies for them. It helps you to function while you put together money to buy more for them. If I understand, the move to VinaD allows people to use their Vicky clothes on Dina. Now maybe she'll take her place in the Poser limelight. But she has more competition now, since Stephanie came out for free.

Vina D is out right now at Renderotica and the GRC (soon here). And yes, she can wear Vicki's clothing. I agree, Dina's default look is not classically pretty. The deal we had with the scanning company for the scan we used allowed them to pick the scan. She isn't what I would have chosen, but if you take a look at Vina, you'll see a completely different look. {{When poser 5 comes out with its new raytracer and true volumetric lighting many people (especially posette loyalists) are going to find out what a difference a hi-res mesh makes particularly when morphed say what you want about dinas attractiveness but she does well under a radiosity raytracerlike C4d or lightwave without massive post work }} Even in Poser now, the difference is dramatic between Dina's mesh and Vicki's, Stephanie's or Michael's. It doesn't matter so much for distant shots, but move in close and Dina and Vina don't have the jagged edges you'll see on the others. Check out this shot and notice that even the nails have no squared edges. There's absolutely no postwork on this image. Diane

Well I think Dina was a great buy, I don't use her that much but check out Katia in the MP to see how versatile she is...I personally can't wait for Vina to come out here :)

I personally also think my money was well spent on Dina. But I also haven't posted anything on this site with her since she came out. Not that I don't use her, but it has been in commercial work and I haven't had much time to play. But honestly, mesh wise, she is my favorite to work with (ducking from the tomatoes...lol) She morphs so well. But on the negative, she isn't my computers favorite. And I prefer to work with the original and not the low version. But I still feel it was money well spent. I just picked up Vina D and can't wait to get a chance to play around with her. (That was my pure whimsical purchase for the week. I handpaint the clothes for my work, so I still don't know why I buy so many...must be that poser bug.) Anyway, don't discredit her just from you initial impressions. And I really don't think she is dead, just quietly awaiting her moment to pounce, like my cat getting ready to go after the keyboard again, lol. Well, night all. Early to work again tomorrow. "Dina's mesh is wonderful if you want to create morphs for her." Actually, I found the exact opposite when I was doing the set that morphs her into Supermodel Dina. Dina's breasts are typical for a Poser figure, super large economy size, in shrinking them down I had a lot of problems keeping the mesh smooth, all those vertices have to go somewhere and the extra closeness makes Poser want to put lumps on any slight irregularity. To be honest, I couldn't get them quite as smooth as I would have like, I just did the best I could. Be another story if you were going larger, perhaps, but I didn't find her easy at all to morph anywear. (Opps, forgot the nudity tag the first time!) That is a "stringless G-String", incidently, not pubic hair, in case you were wondering!

Have they fixed the problems with the pcf file in the VinaD upgrade/update? I read something about a problem before.

RealitysPoison posted Wed, 20 March 2002 at 11:04 PM

Guess you might be right there, Jim. Haven't done any morphing on her breasts really. Used the built in morphs to make them smaller, and between that and SMD and the Cherry character, I haven't yet had a need. The majority of morphing I have done has been with her face, where I love the extra vertices. But you did do a great job on Supermodel Dina, btw. Just took another look at her, and rethinking how you must have done it, I'm glad you did it and not me, lol. But she turned out well.

DTHUREGRIF posted Thu, 21 March 2002 at 6:52 PM

The pcf files seem to work for some people and not for others, so I can't determine what the problem is. If you've purchased Dina and buy the Vina add-on and can't get the pcf's to work, I will give you what you need to make Vina work. :-) Breasts smaller seem to be a problem on any Poser figure, but I find Dina much easier to morph in other areas. At least with magnets, it just seems to be smoother. Diane

Personally, I think this Mover/pcf thing is used very rarely. Somehow the rest of the products still get handled properly when you need a prior version. For example, Mike, Victoria, and Musclebound Mike don't need pcf files. Most other characters and clothes don't. I wonder if the pcf/mover thing is really necessary at all? I did a lot of thinking, and in the end I got the Michael Morphing beard instead.

DTHUREGRIF posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 12:48 AM

Mike 2, Vicki 2 and , I believe, Musclebound Mike are all basically morph packages in cr2's that link back to the orignal obj file and didn't need a new obj file for distribution. Most clothing is either created new or is a cr2 with morphs that doesn't have a changed obj file. Same with characters, ron. They are morphed versions of Vicki or Michael that are distributed as cr2's that link back to the original obj. No obj file is distributed. Vina is based on Dina, but her geometry file has been reshaped. The pcf file is a way to give a price break on Vina to previous purchasers of Dina. If you don't want to deal with a pcf or don't have Dina, you can buy the stand-alone version.

ronknights posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 5:35 AM

Thanks for the explanation. In the end I couldn't track down any info on the pcf situation, so I just went ahead and bought the beard.

Is it me, or does VinaD look a bit strange?
