Tonight, just for old times sake, I was going through the first 10 or so pages in the Poser gallery. I was amazed to see that three of my own images appeared on the same page, even though they were almost a month apart. This caused me to wonder what's happened to the galleries? have they become homogenized? Are there so many people posting that a good image will dissapear into the nether world of pages the majority of viewers can't be bothered flipping over to? And then of course I started thinking -- almost never a good thing -- about the possibility of a juried gallery. Submissions are made by artists of any media, and voted on by a core group of artists and admins for inclusion. This would keep out most of the crap (and you all know what crap there is, let's not kid ourselves), as well as promote top-notch stuff and allow viewers the chance to see what the community thinks is the best. Right now the ranking system is flawed almost beyond repair, so though this may have been its original intention it has failed miserably. This "Hot 20" thing is a joke. Now, I'm not suggesting I should be on the jury, or even that my work is worthwhile enough to be included, but let's at least discuss the possibility. I'm tired of paging through reams of crud for the one or two really impressive works.
