Howdy, TechnoHeads! PoserBooost is coming along nicely! If you don't know what I'm talking about, please have a look at the thread link. HELP! The app looks into the registry to find the poser intstallation path.... Which is fine for me on Win98 as I have an entry "HKEY_LOACL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/App Paths/Poser.exe" which contains a value which is the path to Poser.exe. My question is... Could someone using ME, 2000, XP etc have a look and see if this registry entry exists on your machine? If not then is it somewhere else? If PoserBooost can't find it, the user is given the opportunity to browse for it, but that's a bit clunky and I don't have access to any other OS's. Much thanks! Howie:)

I'm running XP pro. I just did a quick check for you and no... my poser.exe is not registered in that exact location. I did a serch for it and it did turn up my Poser.exe key, so i know it's registered with windows, but it did not give me the registry path. Do you need beta testers?

Thanx, Impudicus. (Ooops! I spelt "LOCAL" wrong!) I was thinking that Mr. Gates wouldn't be making things too easy for me! Anyone know where to find the buggers on XP and 2000? Yes I will need testers soon... not exactly sure how that stuff is done. Do I just ask for testers and wait for responses? Free copies to testers? etc?

I'll try to check tonight on the XP location if you haven't had a response by then. Normally, testers are picked a couple of different ways with a free copy of the finished product as an incentive: 1) A general - get a freebie while picking apart my stuff! First come (by OS), first picked. 2) Contacting people that have been beta testers in the past (not necessarily by you) and asking if they'd be interested. (You could contact some merchants whose products you're impressed with and ask who they used as beta testers.) 3) Contacting people that you know via forum threads and/or chat and asking if they'd like to be your guinea pigs. Most of the time, the beta testers will be honored and honorable. There has been one or two cases where a beta tester has warezed the product, and a few cases where a beta tester only took 5 minutes, declared it good enough, and went about their way. Most beta testers (95%+) will go through and thoroughly pick apart a product to help you out. As you've figured out, always get beta testers with different OS'es. If your product is MAC compatible, get a few MACies as well. Varying levels of RAM is also a good thing. If you need a volunteer, I finally have time to help test. XP Professional. 512MB RAM. Intermediate level of Poser ability, high level of computer ability. I don't have many pictures in the galleries, but you can look at recent posts where people requested comments on pictures/products to see what kind of critiques I write when asked.

The registry for the most part isn't OS specific. Most of the registry keys found in 98 are also found in XP, 2000, ME etc. The exception would be the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEWindowsNT key, which I believe is only found in the NT based OS models. NT, XP, and 2K. Other than that the registry is pretty standard due to the large amount of keys that are required by different software. As for your question, yes, that key does exist in XP.

I do have a Poser.exe in hkey_local_machinesoftware ... etc. on my XP machine. I also found Poser.exe referrenced in several other locations.
