Can you or can you not export a posed figure from Poser as an obj file for someone else to use? If you cannot, is this due to copyright? If it is due to copyright, does that apply only to DAZ3D models and others, or does it also apply to Poser default models? And finally, if I posed a Poser figure would I be in copyright violation for giving away the 2D image of that figure for someone else to use?

It almost certainly would be a copyright infringement on almost all models, DAZ or otherwise to give an exported .obj model to someone else, unless it is your own creation. Almost all vendors don't put any restrictions on a render of the object if you bought the object, but you need to check the license agreement to be sure. I am sure there is something with a restriction, but I haven't run into any yet. Things in the Marketplace, I believe, give you full rights to commercial renders without having to give credit. A lot of the Freestuff requires credit to be given. Again, you should always check the license agreement.

Generally, you cannot export the obj file for someone else's use. It is due in part to copyright, and in part to the software licenses for Poser 4 and for the DAZ models, though the DAZ license is more explicit about this than the P4 license (at least when I bought it). Giving away a picture of a posed poser figure does not violate the license; in fact the DAZ license (which is, btw, on DAZ3D's FAQ page) expressly permits said use. Although there could arguably be a copyright question, the licenses permit this use (and thereby eliminate the copyright issue) because there would not be much of a market for a graphics program if you can't distribute the graphics. One caviat: there was a small controversy here over changes to the DAZ licenses for Michael 2 and Stephanie, which Dan Farr said was intended to bar collections of multiple renders so comprehensive that the purchaser of said collection would not need to buy the model, but which arguably was written more broadly.

You can use UVmapper to easily create a coded .uvs file to distribute (free and professional versions available at this link). Then anyone with the original .obj file and UVmapper can re-create your version of the model. You can often also distribute the .cr2 file for models when you want to share new morphs. But there are important exceptions - like Victoria 2 and Michael 2, as explained at the DAZ site.
