I have a question regarding posing the millenium type figures. Is there a rule of thumb for making an upper leg bend say 90 degrees. What percentage of the bend would be the buttock as compared to the thigh? And the same thing with a leg twist. Do you rotate the hips slightly as well?Am I making any sense? Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

Yes I think a combination of bodyparts is needed. No rules, just whatever works :-)

Just ... ... bend it 'till it hurts ... Then, back it off about 0.001 ... that usually works 4 me. ;==]

The arm/hand and leg/foot moves from the shoulder and hip much like a whip or the dial on a clock. In other words, the closer to the point of rotation (center of circle...) the smaller the movement. The farther away from the point of rotation, the greater the movement or arc. So, rotating the buttocks 20 degrees means the thigh should move 20 degrees or more. Bending forward from the hip (with IK on) the hip might bend 2degrees, the waist 4, and the chest 6, to simulate actual body movement. This is a rule of thumb, tho not carved in stone.

Thanks Don, Thats the answer that I was looking for. The whip is an excellent analogy.
